Does anyone know what happens with these sort of things when a 'withheld' number comes through?

The In-Laws are interested, but often get call from the local Doctor, who displays 'withheld'

:)

If it's the BT Call Guardian, then it's based on the trueCall system and is highly effective.

Unrecognised numbers, and withheld numbers, are challenged to state their name and press a button. Once they do that, your phone rings and you have to choice of accepting or rejecting the call. Nuisance callers simply hang up and your phone doesn't ring.

You can also add the number to a list to be automatically accepted or rejected next time they call. You also have the option to issue a PIN code to regular callers, calling from withheld numbers, to bypass the voice challenge and get straight through.
