Is this dodge?

I'm selling a camera in eBay via auction and someone messaged me asking what I would like for it. I said a slightly silly amount because normally they don't reply after that . The person accepted and said consider it sold to me, can you give me your PayPal name and email and item number to pay or send me paypal payment request. And that it's for their child abroad so they will add £30 for international delivery. (I hadn't offered international on this originally). The person also only has 2 feedback.
Does this sound OK? Because obviously I will then send it signed/tracked etc.
TIA for any advice

The address on the PayPal payment has to match the address you dispatch to. If it's different you cannot fight a chargeback which may come months later. Additionally PayPal payment emails can easily be faked. You need to log in and check the payment has been received in PayPal.

The fact they have offered you money you haven't even asked for (for whatever reason) should set alarm bells ringing.

This has all the hallmarks of a scam. Usually it's a false email saying the funds are in.
  • Yea I have just read about the seller protection thing. I have just asked if the address is the same as their paypal address. If it's not then I'm ignoring it

It's a common scam. You will get an email purportedly from PayPal saying that funds are being held until you provide a tracking number. The email will be fake as will the payment.

No, don't ask them about the shipping address.

    Read the postage sticky.

The main worry here is that they can see you are a complete novice and the likelihood is this is a scam. All of the warning bells should be ringing......look what they've done:

Offered you silly money, paid more for international shipping (presumably you hadn't quoted that), wants it shipping to someone else.

IF you get an email, do NOT click anything in it, even if it looks like it is from Paypal. Log into your Paypal yourself and see if any funds are in.

Then and only then can you think about posting. But BEFORE you do, come back here first.

It's definitely a scam, believe me, don't ever bother responding to them. If you have a moment report them to eBay in case eBay care enough to stop them before they find someone gullible enough to fall for it.

Well done for spotting this , if everyone queried this sort of thing then these scumbag scammers would have to find some real work rather than prey on the vulnerable.

Hacked by themselves? And soon to be hacked when they find something else they think they can scam?

    Cynical me?
