This is actually the third time this has happened.
Small Window Symbol on bottom left, Start
Goes blue but nothing works when I left click. Right click I get the basic list so can turn on/off and Sleep.
First time it happened I switched on and off and had a quick period of it working so went into updates app and there was one. This seemed to work and all well.
Second nothing. Contacted Microsoft support from app and the guy worked round and fixed.
Now its happened again and I cannot even get Microsoft support online.
Can anyone help? Simple instructions please not that tech speak minded.
The icons all work for skype,Firefox and E. Ones on right side do not apart from my Norton.
Thank you.

Your best bet might be a windows repair0

Alternatively as a possible workaround install classic shell:

Hmmm Norton I doubt there is a connection but you never know with that heap of dung.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -

Here here , remove it immediately. Windows defender that is built into 10 will suffice - along with a bi-weekly scan with malwarebytes : https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/thankyou/

you could try the start menu troubleshooter. I had the same problem and it worked for me.

Norton is staying are paid up to end of year.
I did the start troubleshooter and said could not fix. I have scheduled a call at 7.30pm to night.
As I said last time I did get in for short period and microsoft support had to go in and fix it.0 -

.
I just dont understand that
Remove it and rid yourself of its horror, rite off the money and breathe some life into your computer.
If you bought a years supply of some cream that you ended up being allergic to, would you keep using it to the end of the year just because you had paid up.
It is absolute garbage and imho norton should be closed down.

If you won't entertain the possibility that it may be Norton's causing an issue then you have just closed off an avenue toward troubleshooting. AV software can cause all sorts of issues due to the Kernel hooks.
Just uninstall Norton's but not your licence data and see what happens alternatively if you are not prepared to do that then try classic shell as I suggested earlier.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
Found out the problems its a Microsoft update. I googled and this problem is happening to a number of people been known since late last year. Nothing to do with Norton or any other security brand people have all sorts and happening to them.
Went into live chat with Microsoft and they fixed it for free.0 -
Well hopefully it's fixed permanently this time as the last time it was fixed by MS it broke again.
Out of curiosity which KB article are you referring to that caused this problem as what you may be referring to has probably long been superseded by subsequent updates if it were last year.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
I am hoping it is fixed this time.
The articles I found went back last year and had fixes the latest one I found was Jan 16. I did try a few scf scannow one but none worked so I just gave up and went to live chat. She did a powershell and just said it was a update which had caused the problem. I know security updates or rather one in particular always seem to fail. No idea why, but many one here report it. Not sure if was that, as I have updates set to automatic.0
