Best account for foreign currency transactions?

Are there any current accounts that don't charge high fees for foreign currency transactions? I currently have a Santander 123 which charges 2.75% + £1.25 for all non-sterling transactions made using the debit card. I have used Paypal in the past but their conversion fees are actually worse than using the card. Are there any accounts that charge no (or minimal) conversion fees? Which accounts would you recommend?

A lot would depend on what sort of transactions and how frequently you want to transact. You could check out specialist currency transfer firms. Google is your friend.

Presumably you mean for foreign currency internet purchases, but it will be the same as those recommended for travel use.

The Norwich and Peterborough BS Gold Classic current account has no fees for using its debit card in any currency, excellent straight Visa exchange rates.

Metro Bank has no fees for use of its card in European currencies, perfect MasterCard rates, issued immediately when you open an account in one of their London area branches.

The Revolut prepaid MasterCard can be signed up for in minutes on its smartphone app, load it with your Santander debit card and it's ready to use immediately by virtual card in over 80 currencies at interbank rates (on weekdays), no fees.
