Win 10 clean install to new ssd

I've decided to do the deed and upgrade to Windows 10.

Because I have a lot of stuff that may not work on windows 10 what I want to do is.

Have my new ssd drive with a clean install of W10
Keep the old Hard drive with Windows 7 on it so I can boot to it when I need to, although the default will be Windows 10 on ssd

I can then install all the programs that will work to the W10 ssd drive and free up space on the old drive for data.

I currently have W7 and programs on a separate partition of the old disk. I have imaged my drives and data, and backed up.

I plan to unplug my old drive, clean install w7 from a disk to the new ssd, then clean install w10 from an ISO disk to the ssd and make the ssd the first drive in the boot sequence. Then re-connect my old drive. If I need W7 I can then just change the boot sequence.

Will this work and has anyone does this. I have googled this and think it will but would like to know if anyone has done this?

Experience tells me something always goes wrong, and some of the google results were done before all the recent updates of w10

Thanks

when you install win 7 on your ssd , upgrade it to win 10 via https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 then go back to that site and d/load the iso and do a clean install after deleting all partitions

Seems that you did not properly read the OP.

They have already described the installation process. They are asking about whether the boot to the Windows 7 drive will still work.

What does it have to do with me? I didn't attempt to answer, as I would ask questions as to the activation of the Windows 7 installations.
I just pointed out that your reply didn't go to the heart of the matter.

I have no idea as to what you are attempting to write here. It just appears that you've gone a bit loopy. Everything ok at home?

It should work. I will just point out that if you download the latest Windows 10 installation ISO and use it to create installation media (DVD or USB) then you don't need to install Windows 7 on the SSD. Just install Windows 10 and at the relevant point input your Windows 7 product key. It should accept that and activate with no issues and you will have your free upgrade.

You can choose to boot from which HD from bios should the time come to use Windows 7

    Hi Imnoexpert,

I hope you get some definite answers, but in this post, esuhl seems to be saying that this has worked?

Anyway, I'm going to attempt the same thing this weekend, hopefully, so will let you know what happens. But if you attempt it before then, can you let us know the outcome?
