Apps for Amazon Fire tablet

Hi all
I am due a baby any day now and have treated myself to an Amazon Kindle Fire 8gb tablet to keep me occupied whilst in hospital and whilst feeding baby etc. But I am at a bit of a loss now about what apps etc to download/use on it :rotfl:. I'm a bit behind the times with tablets and have baby brain right now!
I have a kindle already and a smartphone so I don't need the kindle app or facebook etc as I can access those.
I do have Amazon Prime for the next month, and Sky Go. So thought I could download tv or films. Will they disappear when I cancel my subscription, or stay on tablet?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
