  • bigadaj You'd better not go there then! It's the land of opportunity that welcomes successful people. That''s why we have been accepted on an investment visa. Look it up as the likes of you wouldn't be familiar with it. :D
  • Mojisola. Good on you! My parents bought a house for £5,000 cash in the sixties. Very proud people who never borrowed a penny. I took after them and bought all my houses for cash. I've worked very hard (especially for a woman) and done hands on self builds, project managing etc. I reckon, you reap what you sow. I respect others from every walk of life, apart from the bitter, jealous ones- but that's their problem! Pleased that you looked after you're dads welfare- that's the way to do it. All the best and good luck for the future. You're dad was obviously proud of you. Take care!:T

To Torry Quine. Thanks for your reply. Yes we'll be fine in the USA. We can fly our aircraft more cheaply- fuel isn't so expensive over there. Made friends at some airfields already. We'll get a big Rv and do some overlanding too. Life is great! All the best!

Good to know some people don't have to worry about the future!:rotfl:
To bigadaj, We have 4 businesses between us, rent several properties and work long hours. Not really work though as we enjoy it- or we wouldn't do it! Also pay loads in taxes and vat. Don't need anything from anyone. I am safeguarding my parents wishes and interests. Decent people would respect others who haven't been stupid with money and made their way through life without anyone's assistance.

Decent people would use the resources they have built up to support them in their old age. A good daughter who is obviously well off would have no issue with this. You can be a decent person and still need help though, the two aren't mutually exclusive.

  • Yes, Torry Quine, that's what my partner and I will do. Relying on state pensions isn't the way to go- that would be So restricting and a "drop in the ocean". Time to start enjoying what we have accumulated, All the best!

Is it me or does anyone else wonder whether the OP's main business might be in Bovine by-products?

Yes the will was properly written and she can live in the bungalow as long as she lkes.

Then an IPDI IIP Trust has probably been created and therefore the half interest that was your late father's will needs to be registered in the name of the Trustees?

Your mother should check with her solicitor.

Many care homes are charities and have to close as they can't afford to stay open. Very few make much money from them.

Hm...my acquaintance started off in a home owned by a charity but was still paying around £45,000 a year - she moved when more care was need to another home where she is paying £60,000+ a year.

Incidentally the home owned by the charity was on a large site in a prime residential area - it has now been sold and is being redeveloped...

The home where my acquaintance now lives is privately owned - I do not imagine that the owners are short of a bob or two!

Just because it is expensive doesn't automatically mean someone is making money although some do but many don't.

Would be easier if you used the quote function for relevance.

My point is that there is obviously no NHS or similar in the us, health insurance is important and provisions of elderly care are very limited for those that can't afford to pay.

Many stories of Brits being wiped out by medical bills in the states for example.
