Capital One Online Registration - Phishing?

OK, so I have tried registering online twice for Capital Ones latest and greatest credit card - which says it can be done on line in minutes, wrong. You spend ages filling out the info only to be told each time that at present they cannot validate the request, they will be in touch. Now I have done this three times, then they contact you through the post, to which you fill out all the forms again and send back.

I have actually sent back the snail mail application twice now and been refused each time for the advertised credit card. The first time I checked my credit rating and background out of interest, which cost me as I'd never been refused before, which was fine? The second time I wrote and asked for an explanation as to why they refused my application to which they declined and said that they do not give out that information?

I ask, is this a form of 'Phishing?' Since I made the request for the advertised credit card, I have had loads of other cards offered to me by Capital One but not the one with a great balance transfer etc that I originally applied for?

I also remortgaged this month and the mortgage lender told me that I have a fantastic credit rating, so what is going on? Is this another way of getting your details to bombard you with credit card offers?

  • If that is the case then they are really stupid aren't they?
You may have to accept that despite your A1 credit history that Capital One do not want you to have the card that you want.
    I suggest you move on.

If you are declined by Capital One, you have to wait 6 months before reapplying.
It could also be that you did not tick the box to opt out of their marketing offers, which means you have been added to their marketing list, an easy way to sort it? Call them up and ask to be removed from their mailing list.:D

  • I was thinking about this last night, maybe Capital One do not want me to have a card because I will not make them any money? Just a thought.

Also this is over an eighteen month period, I have moved now so I thought I might try again and see what happens? Lol
  • You must always remember that your "credit score" with any firm is all about their perception of your potential profitability to them, not your "creditworthiness".
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

I was thinking the same thing.
