Hi Pollyanna thank you so much for thinking of me. I have been absent for about 18 months - illness on my own part and changing life circumstances adding their own stressors. Life continues here on the west coast much as before - a small life but a meaningful one, pretty much out of the loop of most of 21st century life :-) The biggest challenge for me now is deteriorating health, which has meant a change of job, no more creel-making either (which bought in a little extra in the way of barter), limited gardening/food growing and a lessening capacity to knit and sew our clothes etc. I *know* it's about pacing and being grateful for the 90% of things that I can do, but I seem to be having a lot of trouble listening to myself! The only upside is that I'm quite thankful I no longer live on the Island, I don't think I could manage the driving anymore.
So sorry to hear about your troubles, I hope your family member turns a corner and begins to flourish. Have you found your local carers' centre yet? My job switch was from independent advocacy to carer support.0 -
Lovely to catch up WCS . Sorry things are difficult . I usually think of you when I read posts by our wee friend up a hill in Scotland - aka she who hates GREEN things :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Sorry you are no longer making the creels . Is your son still working the fishing . The thing I've just recalled is they were setting off into a wild night around the time you stopped coming on here and I remember wishing them safe home .
Youngests problems have been ongoing since her very early teens and she will be 31 shortly . There is much more effective treatment now for a number of her illnesses but it requires a lot of travel and appointments . However she has some amazing meds so bless the NHS.
Much empathy from me re the pain and restriction on the things you loved . I have RA and Fibro myself and pacing is a big word in my world but not often possible in the demands of day to day life .
As someone who ended up bringing my 4 up single handed , I always coped and made the best of things . I was just glad we had a roof over our head.
Now I am beginning to feel my age which I never thought I would !
Still onward and upward " we aten't dead yet "
Take care and look after my favourite place on earth - the west coast

It can't be easy where you live WCS, I'm on the Ayrshire coast, work a lot of time on Arran, Holy Isle and the Cumbraes. However, we're close to Glasgow, great transport infrastructure etc.
So sorry to hear about both of your journey's with the health issues in your families. It's hard work being a single parent, I think it takes its toll on us even though we manage and do well by our families.
It certainly burnt me out and I too now at 50 have to make major lifestyle changes to cope with fibro and mental health issues. It's damn hard and the transition to dealing with it is hard work. Even the meds you have to take are challenging.
It's great the "meet" you both and I admire how you both cope with those challenges and do so well.0 -
Katkin Thank your for your kind thoughts . I think we spend so many years pushing forward that our own health goes of the radar . However I don't regret it , mine were warm , safe and loved and having been raised os did not crave "things "
I am in the second half of my sixties so you are quite a bit younger , whenever you can try to be mindful of your pain and stress levels and if you can try to do something calming . Your skies are my most loved image of your part of the world and I can conjure them from memory -
Look up and try to just be in the moment .x
By the way most on the threads call me polly - less stress on the joints
Sorry if my earlier post has taken things off topic .
polly
Not very os but I have ordered the budget book at a very good price it will be light and small enough to have out and about with me .It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

Pollyanna yes youngest still at the fishing - he's skippering now. We have gales coming the next couple of days - it's pretty wild here now. I've often thought of you all, particularly our wee friend up the hill when I'm harvesting kale :rotfl:
We're very blessed with modern meds - youngest is 23 and has a version of total allergy syndrome, I have PsA, and neither of us would be here today without them!
Katkin - I now work in Mid-Argyll and Kintyre so shall wave on my way past Claonaig
Sounds like we're all having to make adjustments due to age and illness - aren't we lucky that we have each other virtually??
Take care, WCS0 -
WCS This is so odd dd and I both have psa - she is on wonderful meds and I am too old to have them on the nhs . We are part of a genetic study at the moment as my mum in hindsight had both what was then called rheumatism and also fibrositis . My son (eldest child ) has had bad psoriasis since childhood but seems to have escaped the rheumo side . My psoriasis was bad in teens and twenties but will reappear under stress .
Small world eh ? BTW I can't figure out how to post coloured words - hence the caps but have you forgotten it is traditional to colour the K word .
Well done to the skipper and best wishes to you all .

I have no idea who this wee friend up a hill could be. But I do agree re old age wearing you down and making things more of a struggle
And ty from me too to the OP, we had got into the habit of getting Sainsbugs online every week at around £45 and it's just too much. I'm looking into private health tests now which are probably going to cost the earth - but are much more worthwhile than stuffing my wee face with Sainsbugs Finest lol. So everybody's hints and tips are gratefully received here. As long as they don't involve eating sewage0 -
Oh heck I've summoned her up ! This is what happens when two celtic folk collide . Of course it wasn't meant to refer to you love
methinks she doth protest too much !
Sorry you've not been good and hope things settle . I do pop in and out of the fence but not posted for a bit . Hugs to you and Fuds .

Afternoon all.
Take care of yourself WestCoastScot & Polly X
Well I've done a freezer inventory. Safe to say I don't need to shop for months. I've got loads of chicken breasts, burgers, sausages and HM ready meals.
I
We will be eating from the store cupboards for quite some time.
Later on I shall do a menu planner up until Sept 30th.0 -
Polly sorry to hear you can't get prescriptions for your PsA - shall need to look into that if there's an age thing here too, as heading that way quickly! Glad to hear your daughter is settled though. We have a family history of sero-negative illness, but of course it's only recently been recognised as such, making diagnosis so much easier.
Not sure how to do the green thing - someone will come along and let us know I'm sure.
Mar - it's good for you :rotfl:
Loving this thread - for me too it's come at a time when I need to re-focus my efforts and count my blessings. Being back with you all is one of them
Thanks for your good wishes Mrs M0
