Quickest way to remove missed credit card payments from file?

I've got two stupid missed credit card payments (under £50 total) on my file from early 2014. They were settled in early 2014, too. I'd kept this credit card (which I don't need) open because I thought this would remove them from my file more quickly. However, reading around now I think I may have been mistaken. Would I be better off closing the card account altogether?

I appreciate that either way these will be on my file for a while yet. However, I may as well sort them out now, while I'm thinking about it.

Closing the card will make no difference.

Thanks. So, whether I close the card or not, it'll be gone from my file in 6 years after the missed payment? I had three years in my head, for some reason.

It's 7 years for each individual late payment unfortunately.

Has your account been in good standing since those two late payments? You could maybe try writing a letter explaining your situation and ask if they're willing to remove the late payment. A lot of creditors are open to forgiving late payments provided the account has been managed well after.

Incorrect is 6 years, after 6 years the payments drop off.

Pay off the card and close the account. In due course its status will change to settled and then the missed payments will be irrelevant since the whole account has been fully paid. Well, ok a lender can still view the history of the settled account but that is unlikely due to the time factor of checking settled accounts. Most people have loads of settled accounts. I do.

Missed payments are small beer. Only the most fastidious lender will rule you out due to 1 or two missed payments imo. Repeated and often is a different matter.
