O/S Daily thread Monday 18th July 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Chin up, Titus out.

Morning all

Lainey I hope your mum picks up with a bit of TLC.

I feel like the little engine that can, only 3 more days but it's meant to be 30 degrees, so my room will be difficult to work in.

Hubby's not at work today as he's working Saturday so he has a cuppa in bed, I'll set off to DD's in a mo to take care of the children and help with the school run.

I'm going round for a couple of hours every morning once we break up, then home and on with my holiday plan..

Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Good Morning everyone ,well a busy weekend for me.I had my brother davey's interrment in London on Saturday and it was quite a big turnout.Lots of people /family that I hadn't seen for years .Most of them the ones who couldn't make it to France for his first funeral.Managed to get 7 of the nine cousins all together in one room without falling out (families eh ?) but it all went off well.My nephew came down form lancashire to conduct the service and it was a really nice one and he said many nice things about my brother.Mikey my DGS came with us as he wanted to say his goodbyes, and behaved beautifully, bless him I was very proud of him and he looked very smart in his white shirt and black tie
Very hot day though and I was glad to get out of my home town and back to green and leafy Kent.

Going to be a few scorcher days this week apparently as well I am off to Dartford this morning to visit my friend and have lunch and a good deal of knitting and nattering will be going on I expect.

The boys break up from school on Wednesday so i shall be keeping the peace at their house for the next six weeks or so :)mind you two of those we shall be away on holiday on the Isle of Wight in August so not too bad.
Tuesday will be Coffee morning and quiz night so another busy day there as well.
Hope you all are enjoying some much needed sunshine

Have a good day what ever you are doing

Morning everyone

HH - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, bright, sunny and very warm, forecast is hot sunny and humid for today and tomorrow, then thunder and lightening storms tomorrow night.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 & 2 both still in their pits - DS1 on a week's holiday from work - he's luckily picked the right week to have off, his work is manual and where he works it's either cold in the winter or hot in the summer. They have a few jobs to do today.

Lunch yesterday was hot quiche, hot new potatoes, salad, cheese, pasta salad etc, we did then have a cheeky takeaway last night. Tonight we'll be having egg, bacon, sausage, mushrooms and beans.

I'm back to work today, so it'll be interesting to see what the day brings, I'm not sure who else may be off etc, schools here haven't finished yet until the end of this week.

We went to see fiends yesterday morning for coffee, was good to see them and have a catch up.

Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone :hello:

It's going to be a very hot day here today so I will be hiding in the house with the ceiling fans on all day or else I will dissolve into a puddle. Hubby has gone off to work and the girls are getting ready for school. DD16 goes off to her NCS residential today. I will miss her so much but really hope she has a fantastic time.

I am in two minds whether to make a chicken curry for tea or attempt a chicken in honey and mustard sauce that I saw on Eat Well for Less last week. I have all the ingredients in I think and I certainly fancy it more than curry. I just don't know if the girls will be so keen.

I had a very quiet weekend with no visitors but it was nice to just spend time with the family. Hubby managed to get the grass cut but the only housework done was a bit of hoovering I'm afraid so I will do some dusting today. I am knitting some dinosaurs for a change so would like to do that this afternoon.

I'm very pleased that it all went well on the weekend for you and your family JackieO.
Hooray for the holidays Hester, although it doesn't look like you are slowing down for them :)

I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning :hello:

Millie Chick has been poorly lately. She has the same problem that another one had a few years ago, we took her to the vet and she had two courses of antibiotics, then painkillers and we kept her in the house. None of it helped and she was in pain for a couple of days before she died. I said I'd never do that again, would let a chicken carry on being a chicken outside and let nature take it's course. I've kept an eye on Millie and she's been improving, she's eating and drinking again, preening and her tail feathers are no longer down, they're starting to come up again.

Scampi has finally realised that people walking past the house aren't going to attack him, lol. I've had to use lots of treats and mad, loud praise but he's so much calmer. He still grumbles a bit so still isn't happy about it but he's almost there. And I'm pleased that I can open the curtains properly and leave them that way all day long :D

We seem to have accidentally started a sauce business, lol. Mr tru made two sauces for himself and every time someone came round they wanted a taste. They asked if he could make extra next time so they could have a bottle, and how much please? I ordered some small bottles, got a friend with a sign writing business to make some labels and now have a box full of sauce – already paid for – to hand out to various people :D

Not much going on here over the last few days, it's been mostly chicken-watch and dog lessons. Hopefully things will be back to normal today. I have some bookkeeping to do then I need to play around with my own spreadsheets to include those sauces. The tomato plants have got a bit out of hand so I'll sort them out today.

Morning everyone, thanks for the thread Hester.

Lovely and bright here this morning. DS2 is just off to school. DD can't move due to her DOfE expedition so looks like she's off school today. She has bruises on bruises and was in agony last night. She had pain relief and I gave her some herbal sleep well tablets which helped a bit.

I'm at the church this morning and the French students are back in. Gym this afternoon. Not sure what's for tea, but I had planned shepherds pie for either tonight or tomorrow (using up freezer stocks and meal planning accordingly). Don't think the family will be too impressed if I serve that up in 29 degree heat! Will have a rethink. Zone one cleaning today - kitchen and cloakroom. Will do that later with DH.

Jackie - glad to hear things went well for Davey's service and wow what a lot of money you and Tessa raised. Well done to you both xx

Have a good day all.

Morning everyone,

Bright and sunny here, we are set for a hot one.

Had a very quiet day yesterday as planned. After a dodgy start when her scrambled eggs gave her tummy cramps Mum had a better time with her eating, more chicken soup, strawberries and ice- cream plus a little cheese for supper so that was good. She also slept well which always helps.
Work for me this morning but DOH is working from home so will keep an eye on her and the girls will keep her company. Will move the table and chairs under the apple tree so plenty of shade for her to sit out.
JackieO glad to hear that all went well on Saturday for you and your family, well done on monies raised on RFL x

Have a good day everyone especially Hester counting down the days, take care folks x

Morning everyone.

I'm home. Got back about 11am yesterday to find a brand new corner, the immersion tank in the garden along with assorted bits of pipes. I'm thrilled with the space I've gained though less chuffed at the inevitable dust. Actually it wasn't as bad as I anticipated.

There was a large pile of mail, three books, three folding chairs, a table and an ioniser all waiting in the barn for me. I unpacked the case and rucksack, unpacked the shopping, maid two loads of washing, dealt with the mail, brought the parcels in from the barn and will now probably lose myself in empty cardboard boxes and pieces of paper. M'thinks a trip to the tip is needed today.

I went to bed very early last night and conked out after all my efforts last week. It was definitely the best holiday I've had this century, just tremendous. And, because I paid for it last year in my mind it was 'free'.

Today it's cloudy, the heatwave is not coming here. My major task today is to vacuum and dust the living room (especially) and then set to moving the big chair out of the new corner and put one of the sofas there. As I want to put the one under the window there, it's had much less use than the other one, it means moving all three pieces. Where I'll put the coffee table set I just can't imagine.

Anyway, as the Scots saying is 'it's back to cold porridge and old clothes' time.

I hope everyone has a good Monday.

Sadly it isn't hot here, it's raining. Fairly mild but dull and miserable all the same. Apparently tomorrow could be better!

Finished DDs place mats, not too bad for a beginner, and decided to see how the sewing machine works. I've learnt how to make a button hole and who knew that the machine can sew on a button? Quite enjoyed playing about and started to make a bag that DD left behind, it is a ready cut out kit that came in a book (Cath Kidston). Getting on ok but the facings are missing so I'll have to find some contrasting material to cut them from. Slow and steady!

I also sorted out the button tin and thread box so I can be a bit more organised.

Going to meet DD today and visit Costco, their chicken is on offer along with toilet rolls so will stock up.

tru - Yay for Scampi!
Lainey - Glad your Mum is eating and sleeping well.
Hope your DD enjoys herself dumpling.
Nearly there HH.
JackieO, Sounds like a good turnout for Davey.

Have a good week. Take care. XX
