New Car paint seal StarGard

Hi all

Im buying a new car in September and I have the option of getting the paint Star Guard that is an extra. Is this actually worth it or should i leave it?

If its a "free" option and you're not otherwise paying for it via discount you would otherwise get, then yes.

However they usually charge £200-£500 for kits that you can buy for £35-£40....

lots of add on sales opportunities with a new car, a chance to make up a decent margin for the dealer. If they'd offered it earlier I bet you could have got it thrown in to seal the deal as well as the paintwork. Probably costs the dealer £50 max.

They dont offer it earlier for that very reason.

Once your guard is down and the deal is done then they flog you the high margin add ons - paint protection, GAP insurance, tyre insurance, service packs, etc.

And if you ever do get it free its because they have given discount you would otherwise have got cover the cost of it.

They apply it for you, so in fairness part of that £400 is a labour charge, but its still not a £400 job.

if you want such a product and dont want to apply it yourself do not get the garage to do it, It will be a second rate rushed job.
Find a local detailer and get them to do it properly.

You are best getting a kit and applying it yourself the day you collect the car. It is very easy on a brand new clean car.

Then you can see any marks & imperfections in the paint and rush back to the dealer to get them put right.

There is nothing like polishing a car for spotting chips, marks, overspray and orange peel

Some people..... They spend all their disposable monthly income on a new car and then they can't be ar5ed to clean or look after it....................
