DRO - wrong creditor information

I think I've been very very stupid, I've put a credit collection agency down instead of the original debtor. I read all the advice again and again, I tried very hard to get it correct, but I think the debt was just 'passed on' and not 'sold' I didn't realise there was a difference. Have I invalidated the order? Is there any way to sort this out, I'm dyslexic and stressful things make me more liable to process things incorrectly, I read and reread this over and over, I can't believe I misunderstood and made such a mess. The account details are all correct and it was the agency I was dealing with that I wrote down - I got the address off a letter from them.

  • No I think you'll be ok as long as you have correct figure.

A creditor passed my details to a DCA as soon as the order was confirmed, when I heard from them a month later it just seemed a process, I just gave them the DRO reference and they said they would have to pass back to the creditor even to be distinguished which it was. They were my first 'settled' so nothing much to fear.
  • Except I've used the details of someone I never actually owed the money to. I've got the account number and debt total correct, but not the name of the actual creditor, it's not that it's been passed onto someone else, it's that they never owned it.

If the company listed is someone who has written to you about the debt then you should be fine. They will pass details onto whoever owns the debt, and the debt is covered by the DRO regardless.
  • Thank you, my advisor isn't in until tomorrow so I will have to deal with it then, thank you very much
