SSP and any benefits?

Hi- asking for a friend whos DD has been off work for 3 months with sickness and is unlikely to go back until late August, then only part time at first.
The daughter recently moved back in with her mother, who works FT and they split the bills in half.
The daughters current amount of SSP isn't enough to cover her half and she's now eaten through her savings.
Can she claim any sort of CT reduction or any other help?
They rent their home.
Thanks
The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter :(

They should put their circumstances and income into a benefit calculator such as entitledto or turn2us

That's very unfair on the mother's part.

I can understand her wanting her sick daughter to cover any increase in the bills but charging her more per week than she gets in benefits isn't nice. :(

If Second Adult rebate is still available in her Council area, the mum could apply for that as her daughter is on a low income. It would help with the Council Tax, as it pays towards it

unfortunately, many councils scrapped it a few years ago, but it is available in Scotland and for some councils in England/ Wales

Its not quite so simple, the mothers wages only cover her half of everything with a little left over for work travel, hospital travel and parking, essential spends etc
She's had to reduce her hours from 40 to 30/33 each week as she's having to provide care for her DD

It helps if you give the whole picture in the first post. :(

How did the two of them think that they would survive financially?

If the daughter's savings have run out and the mother's reduced hours only cover half the bills, what's their plan?

Could the mother go back to full-time hours and the daughter get help through social services?
