Wall tile colours

Hi all,

I need some advice on wall tiles. Basically, I am a bit overwhelmed by the choice available, so would welcome some advice.

I am looking to tile a bathroom (approx 1.5m x 2.5 m). The bathroom suite will be white. Which colour would be suitable for such a small room? The window is about 90cm wide x 60 cm high, so doesn't let in a huge amount of light.

What about textured tiles? Good idea/bad idea/makes no difference?

My current preference is large plain white tiles. It seems a bit cliched, but I am wary of going for a colour scheme that I quickly tire of.

Any thoughts on this?

Regards.

I agree with going for large plain white tiles. Perhaps because its what we've just done.;)

We went for matt finish tiles to avoid the full on public toilet look of gloss ones. They look really good. We were going to have a border of narrow tiles running around the room until we saw the price so settled on a few (seven) of those tiles with a cut out in the centre and a patterned insert just to break the walls up. However our bathroom is larger than the one you are doing (about 4m x 2.5m) so needed just something other than plain white.
  • Thanks, LandyAndy.

LOL, I know what you mean about the "public toilet" look!

I do prefer the look of a matt finish. What size tiles did you get?

Oversze white tiles look great. I've gone for matt ones in an en-suite and laid them like bricks for a more modern effect. They look fabulous - floor to ceiling.

Not sure of the tile size as I'm not home until Friday to measure them but I'm guessing they are about 14 inches by 10.

We're doing our bathroom at the moment and are having white portugese limestone tiles. They look really classy and expensive but are a real bargain from 100% stone store on ebay. Dependant on the size they're around £19 plus vat a square metre. They're just in the process of opening up in Peterborough and I went over to collect the sample and they're really nice people. I've seen a couple of magazines with bathrooms in that have used these tiles. Can't wait to see them up in our bathroom!
