Want to move out, would I be able to get temporary accomodation due to mental health?

Hi,

So basically I am unemployed and living with parent. I have recently moved home to an area that isn't good for me to travel between. I want to move more central, but i don't have a job nor money. I have had bad mental health for a few years now and in this new place I feel trapped and away from away. I know homelessness sounds extreme, but this move has been bad for my health and since moving,

I have been stressed out every day. To top things off, the internet connection is poor and signal is just as poor. I am applying for many jobs and I have an interview on Monday, but it's getting to and from places, as well as checking emails and not being able to just walk 10 mins to a bus stop. I am literally in the sticks with the new home and my parents just seem unsympathetic to my cause. I don't think they understand how bad my mental health affects me when I am stressed.

What do I do? I am at a point where I would rather just walk into the main city/town and become homeless than live in the middle of nowhere where I am unhappy and it's severely affecting my mental health. I was going to call the council to ask for advice, but I don't know what to say.

I doubt your reasons would make you a priority for social housing. You have a roof over your head and you are not under threat of eviction, the fact that it is inconvenient is not going to be a valid reason for a high banding. Could you look into a better internet connection? Once you are working you'll have the funds to move somewhere more convenient.
(It sounds like a trip to the doctor would be helpful.)

I understand. I just thought getting some temp accommodation elsewhere would allow me the opportunity to find more jobs easier and travel easier. Would it be worth asking anyway because of the way I feel, or would I just get laughed at? My plan is to get a job and find a place/room, but being unemployed is making it harder for employers to reply. Being unemployed isn't helping my cause neither, so I feel stuck which contributes to my ill health. Any suggestions for finding work quicker? I need a job that would require immediate start really.

There is no harm in asking, some areas do have accommodation available, especially if you're not picky. Have a look at websites for your local council and housing associations, they will give you an idea of what is available.

If you have severe mental health issues, do you have a support worker or social worker who could help you decide what is best to do?

I appreciate the help, Alice. It's hard to find much information this weekend as everywhere is closed frustratingly otherwise I would have visited the council offices. I would work for my keep if it meant be central so I could travel and find work easier, and increase my happiness and stress levels. Right now I just feel low and not myself, but nothing I can do until Monday I suppose.

I don't have a support worker, just because I foolishly try to get on with life as best I can, but when I am stressed out my mental health worsens. I need some advice from someone. Would it be best to contact a service such as MIND? It's difficult for family to understand, and I feel like my issues aren't taken seriously. It is why I don't like opening up about them.

You need to try to get some perspective on your situation.

Your parents aren't beating you... they aren't keeping you prisoner... they aren't using you for forced labour etc.

They ARE providing you with a safe place to live though - and THAT is one of the most important things you can have.

You are an adult. I presume you are getting JSA??? You could find a house share and move out... or a bedsit etc. The rates obviously will dictate how possible that is.

Honestly though - is location really the problem? I think it's more likely that you have a low mood at the moment and need to see your doctor about the way you are feeling.

Honestly - a poor internet connection, poor signal and having a longer commute to interviews does not constitute a housing crisis.

Speak to your doctor, also MIND might be able to point you towards local support groups etc but, realistically, you need to find a way to make your new address work and accept that this is now your home.

Just back from reading your previous threads...

Earlier this year you had a sales job, were looking for a second part time job, said you had savings and were planning a trip to Russia for a holiday.

So, how have things so dramatically changed?

Do you still have some savings to move out into a house share?

Your mental health is affecting your views on life - your issues are NOT serious. You should contact your mental health team.
  • One of the weirdest places ever this week, I saw a poster for confidence and self esteem course plus other counselling services - on that of a barbers window.

It pays to keep an eye out you can find help in the oddest of places.
