Assuming you have a reasonable sickness record, I'd pull a sickie. If you get spotted you were on your way to the GP/chemist/a&e/getting some air.

I've done this in the past. Sometimes it needs to be done. But I wouldn't make a habit of it.

Good luck whatever decision you make.

    !!!!!! is all that about?
  • Malthusian, the problem for me is that there most definitely aren't plenty more fish in the sea. I've been applying for jobs since April and haven't gotten a single interview out of any of those applications. I would admit that the first problem is that there aren't jobs to apply for, so I haven't applied for all that many, even though I've been searching hard.

The NHS one was one that I had applied for back in January and I was pretty devastated to have to cancel. I didn't have that much hope for it anyway, but I would really have liked the interview practice.

Judging by the replies, a lot of people seem to think a sickie isn't such a bad idea!! I think that I'm going to have to lie in some shape or form, otherwise I'll end up having to cancel other interviews too.

Here's a good one and one which I use. Say you are having problems with your telephone line and you need to be at home when the engineer calls. Same time as proposed interview. Works every time

I wouldn't bother with any of the odd excuses, a simply sickness is the easiest. If in doubt take two days to make it more convincing!
  • Nice one Stylehutz, I'm keeping a record of these so that I have plenty to pick and choose from!! Thanks T0rt0ise too, that's another good plan!!
  • Dont plan anything elaborate, just pull a sickie. Say you have been vomitting and suspect the chicken you ate last night.

    Keep it simple.

I say this as the restriction on your leave allowance is really harsh, and it seems like the only option to get what you need.

Speaking as a manager i can smell BS a mile off. The less the individual says the less opportunity I have to smell the lie.

Yet you can't give a reason why?
