Another vote here for Magimix - had my years but upgraded? to a KitchenAid - big mistake - not nearly as good and a complete waste of money.

What is it with people and Vitamix?

The cheapest is £350 and they go up to £650. Most of the blenders you see in commercial premises aren't Vitamix but Blendtec. The warranty on Vitamix is 7 years for NON-COMMERCIAL use.

Vitamix make RUBBISH food processors but fine if all you want to do is blend.

    BTW I use a Magimix 4200XL
The Vitamix can make things hot or cold at the touch of a button, can be swapped over for bigger/smaller sized containers depending on what you want to make, comes with a longer warranty- I'd always been told it was 25 years at shows where I've seen it being sold (everywhere from the Vitality Show to the recent Olympia health and beauty show a few weeks back.) I'd always felt it looked and felt sturdier than the Magmix, having said that; I'd not shell out the £500 and I'm happy enough with the Hotpoint I have (which makes soups from scratch without oil and with steam rather than just heat). I suppose it depends what you need your mixer for as to which brand or type suits you better.

Mr singleton is right though , the vitamix is not a food processor, it's a blender, that's all. It can't make cakes, coleslaw or julienne veg

Sammysue, that's the model I have and as I say I use mine daily. If you are a scratch cook you are going to love it

    Thank you Suki1964

It's good to know that you have the same model. I am a scratch cook, I always have been I suppose.

Anyway, it arrived first thing this morning.. Eek!!

I've already made Red Onion Marmalade. I can't believe how quickly it sliced those onions. I used to hate chopping them up, especially as I have dry eye syndrome and I can't produce tears.

I've also made Lemon Meringue Ice cream. I've yet to try it but hoping that it will taste delicious, as I have friends coming to stay tomorrow for the weekend.

Thank you again for your help! Feeling very happy today.

Oi, you can't just come on here making our mouths water - I mean, ice cream and Lemon Meringue in one recipe! It's a rule here that you've got to provide recipes..

[I may have just made that up :-) ]

Oh that did make my laugh. I've got it from the Good Food website

My visitors think it's quite tasty ( but they might just have been very polite).

    !!!!!!.

I also have a Vitamix and was wondering how you'd mix a bread dough in one or shred cabbage.

OR is your post more of a willy waving thing what with you saying you've bought lots of them?

I don't have a willy, so no 'willy-waving' here. If you have children yourself, I'm sure you bought (or will buy when the occasion arises) wedding presents for them....I see no need for the offensive remark, I gave my opinion in answer to someone's question. I thought that was what we were here for.
In any case, you are wrong, Vitamix really don't make rubbish processors if you know how to use them properly.

It actually can. Look on YouTube for videos (links above).

I'm glad you got what you wanted OP :T

Flip me, I just read that recipe for the coleslaw.

I could coleslaw a whole large cabbage along with the onion and carrots by hand quicker then that recipe takes by machine

But hey if you are happy with it, enjoy. I prefer the magimix and I have a blender for blending. Nice stick on which takes up no space and does a good job

Lol, yes, she does make heavy weather of the process.....it doesn't take half as long as she makes out, honestly it takes 5 minutes, max!
I have a 'V' slicer which also makes coleslaw a breeze, but I was trying to make the point that, if you want it to, the Vitamix will do anything you throw at it.
