Food Processor

some people think spending £200+ on a food processor will make them a better cook"If I know I'm going crazy, I must not be insane"0

Worth pointing out that Vitamix are blenders (or liquidizers as we used to call them in olden times). You could probably blitz onions in one, but it won't chop and slice like a food processer.
SammySue, there are basically three current sizes and models of Magimix: the small one-person 3200, the medium 4200 and the big family sized 5200.
'XL' means it comes with a 'wide mouth' opening for fitting more veg in quicker, otherwise it's the same machine as the above.
The basic models come just with the basic bowls and blades and sounds like what you might want.
Or you can buy as a bundle with some accessories, called 'premium' e.g. 5200XL Premium. Or you can just buy separately any you might want. The dicing kit is very handy for quick stews and casseroles, plus chips!

Magimix would be my recommendation. Rock solid, small foot print, timeless looks, and I use mine daily
The only thing I won't use it for is bread dough. I did once and I thought I had killed it, but 5 mins later it was back up and running as well as ever
I use it for cakes, biscuits, scones, pastry, stuffings, grating, Mayo, soups, sauces, veg shopping and slicing, and probably a zillion other things as well0 -

Wow coffeehound. That really helps. What a lovely thorough reply. I spent yesterday overthinking everything, so your synopsis really helps.Magimix would be my recommendation. Rock solid, small foot print, timeless looks, and I use mine daily

They're not marketed as food processors but the will do anything you ask of them
!!!!!!.
I also have a Vitamix and was wondering how you'd mix a bread dough in one or shred cabbage.
OR is your post more of a willy waving thing what with you saying you've bought lots of them?0 -
My magimix is 15+ years old now and still going strong - it is a great machine - I would thoroughly recommend it
If I were going to replace it I would buy this one
http://www.lakeland.co.uk/70785/Magimix-3200XL-White-Food-Processor- - expensive but should last for years0 -
If money were no object I'd get a Vitamix (they are around £1000 and around £500 for the cheapest very basic model). They are used in industry and places like Starbucks, Costa, Pret...etc and are replaced if they break down. I'm not sure if the guarantee runs for 10 or 25 years but they are viewed as the best you can get.
What is it with people and Vitamix?
The cheapest is £350 and they go up to £650. Most of the blenders you see in commercial premises aren't Vitamix but Blendtec. The warranty on Vitamix is 7 years for NON-COMMERCIAL use.
Vitamix make RUBBISH food processors but fine if all you want to do is blend.
BTW I use a Magimix 4200XL0 -
I also can't see the point of a blender only when a fp, esp a magimix does everything
I have the 4200 and a £5.99 stick blender. One or the other is in use every day. The only kitchen gadget I'm hankering for now is a spice mill. My pestle has done me proud for years, unfortunately my joints are letting me down now0 -
I've got a Kenwood food processor which is at least 25 years old, and still in use with no problems whatsoever. Was due to the longevity that I purchased a Kenwood handstick blender a few years back (around 3 years ago), and again, that is doing very well so far. Must admit that I use the handstick with attachments, far more than I do the bigger processor these days, but not catering for a family nowadays.0
