Savings on Car Fuel

I start a new job soon and have estimated my monthly commuting fuel cost will be about £240.
My commute will be a daily round trip of 150 miles and I should be getting 70 mpg (diesel).
What would be the best way to pay for the fuel?
Cashback credit card (which one), Tesco debit card or something else?
TIA

Since the change to interchange fees then many of the good cash back deals are no longer available.
The only decent ones I'm aware of are a TSB debit card with their current plus account, this will give you £5 on the first £100 a month, though there's interest on sums held in the account. This only works on contactless so would require £30 full ups and if you opened an a count now would get it for about a year. Also need to find a petrol station that takes contactless, Morrisons is the only big supermarket one that regularly takes it as far as I'm aware.
Otherwise Amex pay 5% for 3 months on their everyday reward in the first £2k. One way round this limited time can be buying gift cards, I believe this works with tesco for fuel, not sure about others.
Otherwise you're down to less than 1% cashback, you mention tesco is that where you would be filling up most often? Asda card gives 1% I believe on spends in their own store.0 -
Santander have a credit card that pays 3% on petrol (only £100 spend per month) but there's a £3 monthly fee after the first 6 months so you'd be no better off from month 7. It also gives 1% on supermarket spending and 2% on department stores.
It does have 23 months at 0% with a rare free balance transfer if that takes your fancy.

I use a asda credit card for my fuel, fill up at asda and get 1% cash back when filling up in asda0

I'd be looking at freebies. Hilton card. Qualify for free room. Switch. BA card when incentive is 9,000 Avios. Qualify for return flight to Western Europe. Switch. Amex card with 5% cashback. Switch. IHG card with 10,000 points.
Remember to close accounts after you've utilised any reward and successfully opened a new one. Then you can repeat a few months later.
Also, if you have a partner he/she can open similar accounts and allocate you a second cardholder.
Within a year you could easily have two return flights including hold baggage from London to Prague or Munich (or others) for £70 including two free nights in a top Hilton hotel. With a free night in a Holiday Inn Express somewhere unpopular too!

If you're filling up at Tesco get their credit card but only to use as a clubcard on petrol paid for with a better rewarding card. You get double clubcard points plus the reward from the other card that way.0 -
Thanks everyone.
I think I'm going to 'Stooze' the fuel costs into Santander 123 using a Sainburys 0% credit card and use Tesco credit card for the double clubcard points.0 -

It's a shame you weren't asking this question this time last year as Santander offered 3% on transport which was capped at £300/month rather than the reduction introduced last September (to £100).
It's worth pointing out if you fill up at Tesco rather than earning 1 point per £2 spent you'll earn 1 point for every £1 you spend; even if you don't use that card to pay for the fuel too. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -
