Can't you find three roofing companies in the neighbourhood and see if they do free quotes and compare their results? A local guy (or girl) will know the house type and it shouldn't cost £600 to find out whether it needs a full replacement.
If your budget is so tight it can't accommodate extra surveys, I would save up a bit more or find a cheaper property. A few hundred quid is nothing in the context of the biggest purchase of your life.They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -
You're spending tens, if not hundreds of thousands of pounds but don't want to pay a few hundred quid for a survey?
Anyway, even if you don't have a survey, as suggested, just get a roofing specialist to take a look.
I paid around £4k for a new roof and gutters, etc on a typical Victorian terrace in East London around 8 years ago.
