Bt-do I give notice or let new company take over

Ninth Anniversary 100 Posts Combo Breaker Newshound!
Spoke to two separate advisors recently who confirmed my contract was up on 18th August.

Have just received my latest bill and I have been charged at the full rate from 13th July-nearly £45!!

Where do I go from here? In my last conversation with them they did not give me any incentive to stay-giving me a "special deal" which was exactly the same price as I was paying but for less services.

Do I have to give the, notice, or should I just let the new provider go ahead and do it?

Thanks

Your contract hasn't 'ended' you may have reached the end of a minimum term...if you cannot get a new deal that you are happy with and are going to switch provider then the process is to let this new provider arrange the switch, you don't contact your 'old' provider, by doing that you could end up having a period of no service, or paying more than is necessary.
You will know things are progressing when , after contacting a 'new' provider and getting a changeover date, you receive a letter/email saying 'sorry you are leaving' from your old provider.
  • My BT contract was due to expire next month for broadband and line rental.

I rang them on Thursday and got broadband reduced from £20 to £10 per month for the next year. I'm sure I could have got a better deal with Sky but having had a disastrous two month switch to TalkTalk two years ago, I didn't want the hassle of being without broadband again.

At least with BT, I get a reliable service.

My BT contract came to the end of the 12 month minimum term a few months ago and also went up to around £47 which is what I expected.

I had been looking for a replacement deal and went for one negotiated by MSE a couple of months ago which brought the monthly cost down to roughly £22 per month over 18 months by opting to pay 12 months line rental up front. This was with Plusnet and includes evening and weekend calls plus unlimited-fibre.

The switchover process was done by Plusnet (who are part of BT) and went without any problems.
