                    Hello guys.
I have a question. my mum is on benefits and I am a full time university student. I'm aware she's not allowed more than 16,000 in savings. However how much am I allowed in savings? I plan to save my student finance. I don't want my savings affecting her. I am classed as a non dependant.
Thanks.

To answer the question you asked.
Your income and savings will have no effect whatsoever on your mum's benefits.
The only exception may be that if you worked during the holidays they would take a non dependent deduction from your mum's housing benefit.
it would help to know what benefits your mum receives.
Your mum must notify the council if she is receiving HB and CT reduction and let them know that you are a full time student.

Hi. My mum recieves housing benefit, ESA and PIP. I live with her.
And to answer the other person I won't be saving all my student finance ( I still need to travel and buy books etc) I'm just going to be wise with it as I don't currently work!0

If your mum receives the daily living component of PIP then no non dependent deductions are made to HB.
New link as the other one doesn't appear to be working!

Although it won't affect your mother's benefits, you'll still need to pay for your rent and keep out of it - that was the point I was making.0

If she receives ESA (income related) she needs to declare anything over £6k as this is the amount that benefit begins to be affected.
 Over £16k stops it completely0
