I think there should be laws to protect those who display visual signs to ward away cold callers, but otherwise I think it is all fair game.

Howabout there ahould be law to protgect those with not enough accumen to put up such signs.

Which as far as i can tell are the only people to buy from said cold callers.

Much like the nice betterware etc catalogues which , sorry no you are not getting back, you posted it here, i just then buy it at then best price if it interests me.

Neighbours got a sign up, but i think they wind him up by giving him an extra leaflet for free :)

Never seen anyone read it and not leave one. Can the person delivering it actually read? I dont imagine their thoughts at the time are i love my job and isnt life wonderful as they wander up your path.

More like zombie mode just counting down how many leaflets or roads are left.

Stop them before they start the spiel and say you just rent the place or justhe say "thanks but no thanks", I find saying I rent the house gets the job done.

Ahhhhh, the pleasures and advantages of living in an 'off-the-beaten-track' village! :D We hardly get ANYONE calling on us. We have had Jehovah's witnesses ONCE in 3 years, and we get 'charity bags' dropped in our postbox maybe once every 6 months, and vans calling, offering to cut the trees or install new windows every 4-5 months.

They have to come off the A road, and go down a verrrry narrow track, for a mile, then over a very narrow bridge, then come down several more narrow roads. It's all badly signposted and VERY out of the way. Plus, our house has locked gates on it, and you have to press the intercom to be allowed in. Like so.... (The postbox is on the opposite side to the intercom.)

We used to say this in our last house that was in a suburb.

One guy stopped us once in the town centre, (from a certain energy company,) and asked us to change to them. I said 'we rent our property.' He then went on to say 'your landlord is ripping you off!'

    !!!!!!?! :rotfl:

I said 'ok, I have 2 questions for you... 1 - who on earth instructed you to say that? and 2 - has anyone you've ever said it to ever believed it?' :rotfl:

Undeterred he said, 'well he IS ripping you off!' I just laughed and walked off. The temptation to stay and demand that he explains how and WHY, was overwhelming, but I had had to go home and hoover the cat.
    You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:

It seems cold-calling has been banned in Sonning, Berkshire - the home of one Mrs Theresa May...

To maninthestreet.Unfortunately not. They just get told to get on the next boat out. If they have any saleable items in their possession these can be confiscated which do not get returned.

The total population of the IOM is only about 86,000 which is far less than the nearest town to me in the UK (Crawley Sussex which has a population of 106,000).
With the IOM being such a small and isolated area (After all, I doubt if many cold callers would bother travelling from the UK to ply their trade) and having such a relatively small population, cold calling should be fairly easy to control.
There would only be a limited number of rogue companies or individuals there and I'm sure that it wouldn't be too difficult to control or trace miscreants.

Some areas do have signs stating its a no cold calling area, Aunt/Uncle used to live in a no canvassing area.
