Budget wedding in Cheshire area....?

Hi,

My SO proposed recently and we are hoping to get married next year. We are originally from South Cheshire and a lot of family will be travelling and staying with our parents (I've been to far too many weddings where we have had to pay high prices to attend friends/family weddings and don't want to put our families in this position :naughty: ).

So here's the problem... we are looking to get married on a Saturday and lot of places are £4000+ just for the venue not including catering, dj/band, wedding, decorations etc, which personally for what is essentially an empty barn is a lot of money for a few hours and often insist on in house catering which of course is massively extortionate. Village halls look fine and we would be happy to put in the leg work with decorating etc but can't seem to find one in our locality that is nice and caters for all our guests and has availability!

We have approximately 127 guests, and that is squeezing it to the absolute minimum (we could cut to 105 if we asked children not to come but feels a bit wrong not to invite nephews ans nieces all of which are close), he is one of 11 siblings so as you can imagine it's a massive family.

So does anyone know a relaxed, informal, nice (or potential to be nice with leg work) venue in Cheshire that doesn't cost the earth? Preferably with some outside space for kids to play, have a hog roast etc.If you do we would be very grateful!! We are open to any ideas and welcome anything that is a little out there!

Thanks

:j

Firstly, congratulations! Secondly, don't know anything about Chesire, but a quick google brings up quite a few options:

    http://www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/residents/leisure-parks-and-events/village-halls-church-halls-and.aspx

    https://www.hallshire.com/halls/1/england/20/cheshire-halls-for-hire

The last link was the one we found our eventual venue through. With a year to go, availability shouldn't be too much of an issue in village halls. Have you a specific date in mind already, or just a general 'month'. The less specific you are on the date, the easier it will be. Also, you really do need to visit village halls to get a feel for them - do you trust any family in the area to do some of the legwork for you?

And finally, there is a Weddings Sub-board under Special Occasions and Celebrations which might find you more responses :)

Edit: It looks like capacity will be your problem with village halls, although I would also add don't take the numbers on the website completely at face value. This place looks quite nice: https://www.hallshire.com/halls/view/1182/the-hall--marthall

And finally this place - £2750 for a Saturday wedding in 2017. Not quite as bad as the private places: https://www.warrington.gov.uk/info/201287/walton_hall_weddings/2233/walton_hall_venue_hire

A friend of ours got married a week before Christmas and had the reception in a village hall. Everyone helped to decorate it and it was really lovely as there were tent like white screens on the ceiling and walls with fairy lights. They had pine cones with red ribbons on them and hessian around the wine buckets tied with red ribbon. Matching circular hessan centre mats with handmade candle and red floral centre pieces. The cake stand was a tree log slice and they had tiered victoria sandwich type cakes dsted in white icing sugar with berries around the side and bride and groom as pine cones. it was really magical.

A lot of cricket and golf clubs as they often have nice private club houses. Also have a look at British legion, conservative club, Irish clubs as they often have their own buildings with hall hire.

    Congratulations.

We offered our guests the option of camping at the venue. We were actually surprised how many people decided to camp. It was a particularly popular option for those with children Some stayed for a few days afterwards.

Kings Acre, Saughall, just outside Chester. Very reasonably priced! On Facebook as kings acre weddings and events. Small holding with marquee, availability to camp etc but also in close proximity to chester so accommodation for all budgets.
