Just the once - and if I didn't get an answer in the agreed timescale I'd be picking the phone up to them/walking down to the office and waiting until I got the answer

That entirely depends what stage you're at and when they told you to expect any progress.

Although it's frustrating to hear nothing, remember that each time you and their other clients ask them for an update when there is nothing new to report simply delays everyone.

Do you actually have a question for them or are you just asking about a general 'hi how are things going'?

I know there is a small outstanding issue on my purchase so am asking for updates weekly at this point. Before that cam up I left it over two weeks when I knew the searches were being done.

If they did wouldn't they have sent a copy to you as you need to know what is being left etc? How long have you already been waiting for this? Bear in mind the documents only tend to get sent out once you have sold etc then you are waiting for the seller to fill them in and send back so if you haven't at least allowed for a weekend for the seller to fill this info in then I think you are chasing for that info a little early.

I don't think we ever contacted our solicitors to find out how things were going on either of our purchases. They always let us know when to expect progress, and if something was holding things up they got in touch and kept us informed. Maybe we were just lucky!

How often to you enjoy being asked by someone at work for an update when there's nothing to update them about since the last time you updated them, and if there was, you'd have updated them already?

    That's your answer...

Well I'm glad I asked as the vendor hasn't send her pack to her solicitors yet!!! Even though the EA said on 7th July she was handing it in :( how long should you wait for the seller pack for?

We put in our offer at the start of June and as of last Friday, the pack still hadn't been returned to the vendor's solicitors.

In contrast, we received the pack to fill in for our sale about 2 weeks after accepting the offer, and returned it the next working day.

This whole thing is driving me mad with stress :( I hope you get a quick resolution - we've continued with searches/surveys etc. in the meantime so hopefully the pack will just be the missing piece in the jigsaw.
