Sunderland Air Show-any advice?

We are going to the air show next week and would like to know if any of you who have been to this show can offer any advice on how to get there, what time to get there and where are the best vantage points. We are staying at a hotel in Newcastle for the weekend and do not know whether to drive or if we can get a train to Seaburn. We have been looking at the airshow website and it appears that the shows start at 10 am each day, is this true or do the display stands open at 10am and the actual flight displays start early afternoon?
Any advice or tips would be most welcome.

Definitely do not drive - the queues are horrific.

I would get the Metro straight through
