Bank error

I registered with the three credit score agencies recently and spotted a red flag on one. Eventually I found out what it was - an "arrangement to pay" on my bank credit card dating back to 2013. The other two agencies had records of this also.

My bank apologised when I rang them and removed it. They can't explain why the mistake was made. They offered me £50 compensation when I said I was really annoyed with them and are ringing me back on Monday so we can "resolve this". Should I be asking for more or is my fault for not being able to get to the bottom of it sooner?

Over the past few years I've been rejected for an air miles credit card and a car loan despite earning well and doing everything right according to MSE. My credit scores have remained average. I've registered with agencies on and off but I've never got to the bottom of it until now.:(

    Hi

I’m not sure how much compensation generally gets paid out in these kinds of cases but I certainly don’t think you should feel that it’s your fault. The bank made a mistake not you.

You could threaten to make a formal complaint and take the matter to the Financial Ombudsman Service if you don’t feel their compensation is fair.
