I saved for 2 years to be able to go on holiday, I was on a tight budget while away and stuck to the budget. I knew back in April July was going to be a "poor" month due to the fact I am on a zero hours contract therefore if I do not work I do not get paid.

I managed to save enough to cover the bills I was paying pre holiday while I was away and upon my return. Alas I Unfortunately overlooked one bill, this being council tax.

My rant isn't over my ability to budget or lack of budgeting skills its over how the council tax department are not very giving. I have since looked at my monies and rearranged a few D/D with other companies who are much more nicer, accommodating and friendly and have arranged to free up some money to pay the Council tax.

Council tax is a massive bug bear I can change every other supplier expect water and council tax, (unless I move of course).

Unfortunately the council don't employ mind readers so they didn't know that you hadn't budgeted for any extra bills after your holiday.

Are you saying that after saving for 2 years you had no savings left when you got back from holiday? Do you think that this is a sensible thing to continue to do? Or do you think that when you come back from holiday you should still have money that is for emergencies?

    I agree with this entirely.

Your lack of planning does not constitute their emergency.

Also I feel like you are brushing over the fact that you ignored the parking ticket... ignoring problems always makes them go away!

Just do as my dear old Nan used to do...get dressed up to the nines and strut up to the male receptionist and make him an offer he cant refuse...either excite or traumatise the poor lad.

Admittedly she was regularly arrested for walking the streets after dark...she had 3 teeth and weighed 27 stone at the time of her death.

This is obviously no help to your case...but then ignoring bills and hoping they will look the other way until paid is also no help either.

My argument again is they have no lee way, they are stuck in there ways... they give all the call us if you cannot pay we will help talk yet when it comes to it they do not care and are jus after there money....

Starbright, you have no argument, you messed up big time. Your arrogance astounds me. After rent or mortgage, council tax is the next bill to be paid, it is a legal requirement and must be paid on time. Of course they are not able to negotiate with you, what would happen if everyone moaned and whined like you do, chasing people for money is a costly business, and has to be paid for, hence the council put up their charges. Yes, they do want your money, so get your finger out and pay it. And stop moaning.

What Ilona said. And all over a measly £91! Which, if you leave it long enough, will multiply exponentially, just like the parking fine.

putting blame to one side and looking at the best way forward i would advise paying the council tax immediatly and paying £150 of the parking ticket whilst offering to pay the remaining parking ticket next month.
explain to the parking ticket company you simply can not possibly pay it all in one month and will do your upmost to clear it over two months

REMEMBER: you can not pay out what you have not got any life is more important than money but certain bills are priority I.E council tax, rent / mortgage
