Hi,
I contacted Canada Square Operations today and was told to send them a filled-in FOS PPI compiaint form via email.
I am wondering how best to word the 'please tell us what your complaint is about' section of the form. I believe I was mis-sold PPI with an Egg personal loan in around 2002. Right now I have:
'The application process was entirely online, and I believe that unwanted PPI insurance was included automatically via a pre-ticked checkbox, or automatically bundled with the loan.'
Do you think this is a sufficient 'complaint'?
Thanks.

If none of that is actually true, you'll end up with EGG all over your face.'The application process was entirely online, and I believe that unwanted PPI insurance was included automatically via a pre-ticked checkbox, or automatically bundled with the loan.'
Complaints need to be factual , not simply speculation on your part.0 -

Okay, I'll remove 'I believe' and the automatic bundling then. I know I had the PPI, and I didn't question it, and the loan application process was entirely online.
Now I have:
'The application process was entirely online and unwanted PPI insurance was included automatically via a pre-ticked checkbox.'0 -
If that is the case, it's far more likely that you selected the PPI yourself without any involvement from Bank Staff.the loan application process was entirely online.
This would mean you mis-bought rather than were mis-sold and you don't have a valid complaint. Now I have 'The application process was entirely online and unwanted PPI insurance was included automatically via a pre-ticked checkbox.'
If you haven't actually done any research about the circumstances of your application, you are leaving yourself wide open to a swift rejection. How do you know there was a pre-ticked check box? By 2002, pre-population of check boxes was at an end..0 -

Where do you get your info from? it was April 2007 that pre ticked boxes were at an end.
If it's a loan then go down the single premium route.0 -
That was when all banks agreed to fully cease the practice. It was already controversial long before that. This thread is about Egg who I believe ended the practice long before 2007.Where do you get your info from? it was April 2007 that pre ticked boxes were at an end.
I agree. If it's a loan then go down the single premium route.
The point is that the OP needs to fully research any complaint he might make and not just throw random mud hoping some sticks.0 -
Do you remember reading their strongly worded advice on why you should have PPI?
Should be possible to find the version of the web page in the web archive project - web.archive.orgPPI success. Banding success. Double Dip PCN cancelled! South facing solar (Midlands) and battery. Savings Session supporter (is it worth it now!?)0 -
Good advice. Researching before complaint is bound to strengthen the chances of success.pete-20-11 wrote: »Do you remember reading their strongly worded advice on why you should have PPI?

I think the most likely source of refund, though, is to look at whether the loan was single premium and complain accordingly.0 -
Not if it shows that there was never any PPI in the first place.:rotfl:Moneyineptitude wrote: »Researching before complaint is bound to strengthen the chances of success.0 -
Well, I was kind of assuming the OP had at least checked that!magpiecottage wrote: »Not if it shows that there was never any PPI in the first place.:rotfl:
