Money Moral Dilemma: Should I keep the cashback on my replacement car hire?

    No reason at all why you should declare it, you are paying for the hire and will be presenting a totally legitimate invoice regardless of cash back/ Nectar points or any other incentive ;)

    No problems with that at all.
    No doubt although not your fault all the inconvenience of it has cost you more than the cashback you are due back.
    And plus they wouldn't offer cashback if they weren't making more profit than the cashback.

    cashback isn't a reduction in the cost of the item/service. It's a reward for you choosing that company to do business with. They reward you proportionally to the amount of business they got from it.

    Hence as you are the one who chose that specific car rental company, you are entitled to the cashback. The rental company (via TCB or quidco or whatever) is giving that amount to you personally, and the insurer has no claim on it. The amount paid for the rental stays the same, and that's what the insurer must pay out.
  • It's a reward for you choosing that company to do business with. They reward you proportionally to the amount of business they got from it.

    Hence as you are the one who chose that specific car rental company, you are entitled to the cashback.
