14k to invest, where should I put it?

I will have around 14k to invest and I was wondering where is the best place to put it. I dont need immediate access to it so Im happy to lock it away for 6 months or even a year. I dont have any ISA savings so should I be putting 3k x 2 (me and partner) away and then doing something with the rest of it? Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

ISA absolutely Yes, have a look at the link below to give you the best rates, you can put 6k in now until next april (3k each) From next April you can each put in £3,600 for the 2008/9 financial year. As for the remaining 8k well me personally I would bang it into a high interest rate internet account, again look at the link below to give you the best savings rates. I use Sainsburys at 6.25 AER thats 5% NET for a 20percent tax payer !! others out there as good or better, almost as high as some ISA's

You could also choose the tax free NS&I saving certificates if this money is only to be saved in the short term. Not as good as the ISAs from what I've seen, but tax free and therefore pretty sweet
