Dehumidifiers - dessicant or compressor?

We've had a lot of warm humid weather recently so I don't want the heat on but the humidity inside is getting too high. We've had an EBAC 2650 for about 10 years and it's great. It's powerful enough to cover a 4 bedroom house so you just put it somewhere central and leave it running. It doesn't cost much to run and extracts about 3.5litres a day in the current weather when set to auto.
