TDX Ltd & 247 Spares - advice needed, please

Options
Hi - I would be really grateful for some advice here.

I bought a Shogun engine from TDX Ltd, after placing a request through 247 Spares. I have an email from Khan at TDX stating that the engine will fit in my Shogun (97 Automatic), as it is from the same year. When it arrived, my garage called me and told me it was from a 91, and no way was it going to fit in my car - distributor instead of coils and stuff like that. I sent a letter to TDX, stating that they were in breach of contract, and asked them to refund me and collect the engine. They have collected the engine, but no refund. I spoke to them on the phone, and they said the engine was fine and they were sending a cheque, but that was 2 weeks ago, and no cheque.

I paid on Barclaycard, and I am aware that Barclaycard are liable under Section 75, but this can take months, and right now have have no engine and no car. I am a single parent, with no support from my child's father, and this engine cost just under £600, which I know by engine standards isn't a lot, but I can't get another engine until I have this money refunded. Ultimately this means that I have to walk my 4-year old son 3 miles to the nearest bus stop to get him to school (I live in the country). A half-hour trip in the car becomes 2 hours worth of walking and catching trains/buses, twice a day, which is an awful lot for a 4-year old. If I can't get this sorted fairly quickly, we'll be walking in darkness down 3 miles of country lanes twice a day. Aside from this, I'm self employed and my business involves towing a horse trailer. Needless to say I'm not doing a great deal of towing at the moment! :(

I have spoken to 247 spares, and the woman who answered said that she didn't think that TDX was registered with them, and although she said she would call back, as yet she hasn't.

Does anyone know the quickest way of getting this resolved? Should I leave it to Barclaycard or take them to small claims myself?

Any advice will be very much appreciated.

Many thanks

Kay

If you go through Barclaycard they should suspend the payment for the engine untill its resolved.

  • Thanks Deanos & Ovetta :) - I'll call Barclaycard and make sure they hurry it up, and I'll try and get hold of our local CAB now.

It does make me wonder why 247 Spares make it appear as though they have a "customer support line" to call in case of difficulties, only for there to be no customer support at all whatsoever when difficulties do actually arise, leaving the customer to spend valuable time sorting it out themselves. Especially when the website gives the impression that that's what the customer service number is for.

I'm now off to spend my time filling in Section 75 forms and trying to get hold of the CAB!

Cab phone lines are often constantly engaged-if so try ringing one in a more remote area.
  • I paid on Barclaycard

Ring Barclaycard and do a chargeback, the cheques in to post routine could go on for months?

You weren't kidding! Thanks for the advice.

Thanks Stan - will call them now.

I've noticed there's another thread on here about 247 Spares non-existent "customer support". Does anyone know if this is a Trading Standards issue?
