Car Insurance and Moving

Just moving house...Car insurance due for renewal 16th august but moving 24th july.
So rather than change address on the existing policy and paying admin fees etc I'm tempted to just leave that one as is, suck up the two week loss and just let it run out and take out a whole new policy for the new address - am I legally ok to do that?
Also I tried to do a check on the prices via comparison site - and was frankly horrified to see the difference the new address makes. Bear in mind I'm moving about 10 miles - from a rural property (car on a drive) to another rural property (again car on drive) - the only difference is that I'm moving to street of around 30 houses where as where I am now its about 10 properties dotted round. I've checked the crime stats and they aren't particularly high. The price difference is £100 minimum! (£285 current address to £405 new address)This to me sounds extortionate! Its more expensive than when I lived in the centre of town and my car was parked on the street!
any way I can argue the toss on it? Advice appreciated! I get that it might go up a bit - but £100+ seems almost criminal!

Slight problem is that your no claims will be on the old policy, leaving you with zero no claims for the new one.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

No claims isn't an issue as insurers will likely give you 30 days to produce evidence anyway (if they even ask for it!).
The problem is you will be dual insuring the same car. Whilst not allowed, this will also cause problems on the MID registry as well as causing no end of problems if there happened to be a claim within those 2 weeks where both policies were active.
Only solution to that if you want to start a whole new policy is to cancel the existing one. With such little time left I doubt there would be charges, just be careful that unless you are on full NCB you won't gain the extra year!
I would certainly query it. Ask what the insurers area ratings are and see if they can provide a real time quote based on your existing address to see if it's an issue with the rates.
Sometimes it can be the smallest things you don't think of like not being registered as living at that address on the electoral roll so all the checks don't match up (which can actually make a difference!).0 -
Thankyou - That helps a HUGE amount! I hadn't considered those points!0
