Damp caused by next door !!

I bought my home nearly two years ago , next door is a council house and ive recently found damp on 2 walls in my living room .
After trying to figure out where it's come from as it's about 3 ft off the floor it measures up perfectly to a down pipe on next doors property that when it rains leaks .
Next door never contacted me back about the issue so ive spoke to the council and there not returning there calls either , they can acsess te pipe through my garden by removing a fence pannal , how long do the council have to solve the issue ? And can I claim for repairs inside my house ? IVe got a young child and die my 2nd in 6 weeks so would obviously like it solved asap .

I'd write a formal letter (sent recorded or via email) to the council requesting that they repair the damage to their property (if it is indeed theirs, I'd check first) as it is damaging yours by causing damp to penetrate.

Give them 28 days to sort it (put this in the letter).

As phil says, once you put this in writing, a paper trail is created which is less easy to ignore than phone calls. Writing is better than all the technology for this sort of thing.

If you don't get a response within 28 days, see if your home's insurance company will help. You might even have legal assistance as part of that policy.
