O/S Daily Thursday 14th July 2016
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them x
Now light, light cloud and sun is shining.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit.
Dinner last night was gammon steaks, egg. roast potatoes, cauli/broc cheese (incl LO’s), stuffed mushrooms, and peas, fresh strawberries and cream for dessert. Tonight will be smoked sausage and mushroom pasta in a crème fraiche sauce.
I was reasonably productive yesterday, I managed to get the remaining ironing done, spoke again to my internet provider regarding the problems with emails, they were reasonably helpful but everything they said to try still didn’t work, and any further help would be chargeable, so I took the computer to my local computer guys, who said they have a 2 day turn around at the moment, so was prepared to not have it back until Friday/Saturday but less than 2 hours after taking it they phoned to say it was sorted and I could go and collect it, seems to be sorted, but I’ll wait and see!
Today I’ll be heading to town to the building society and bank then home to do some jobs on the pc and possibly strip and wash our bedding, DS2’s was done yesterday. I have a load ready to go in WM but will get a shower first then put it in and it will be ready to peg on the line before I go out. I also need to do a menu plan and write a shopping list ready for doing the food shop tomorrow. Will just potter along.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all.
Thanks for the thread nmlc.
Yesterday was a glorious day here despite the wind. We had an exhausting but fascinating day again. Each place we visit gives ua 'wow' moment or three. The stuff we have learnt from the leader is enough to make my brain burst. At every turn of the road or every lump in a field there are more tales from the Orkneyinga Saga or more Iron Age stuff. We visited the Stones of Steness and then walked four hundred yards to the excavated Neolithic village of Barnhouses. Simply wonderful.
Last night we all went out to a local pub to listen to the accordion and fiddle group have a practice session, that was lively and good fun.
Today the weather is back to cold and damp. We're going to the Island of Rousay by ferry to visit Taversoe Tuick tomb, Blackhammer tomb and the Midhowe tomb and broch. This last place has a long and tricky trek to reach it do I may duck out of this because of my dodgt knee.
Second last day!
I hope everyone has a great Thursday.
PS in edit - opened my curtains and found the cruise liner Caribbean Princess in the harbour, 3,000 guests on board!0 -
Morning all and thanks for starting us off nmlc. We have a glorious start and the nice weatherman says we are not going to get any rain! Might get some garden pottering done today.
Youngest DGD5 is up and awake and we are watching Peppa Pig (again!) Middle one still fast asleep but the eldest stayed at her dads last night. All three are back tonight after their swimming clubs.
Got the shopping done yesterday between Aldi and Iceland and the washing dried and ironed too, so today is mine. At least until the girls get back again and run me ragged!
Have a nice day today whatever you are doing and (((HUGS))) to those who want one. Thinking of you today JACKIE. Take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all,
Looks to be a nice day here, I need to drop dd at the station then Evie to the vets for a post op check, she seems to be doing quite well although she seems in more pain as she wont even attempt the stairs or jumping now, she is just resting a lot which is good.
Something with chips for dinner tonight, there is some cottage pie left over which OH loved and said he would like again tonight, so might give him that, he is always starving when he gets in from work so double potatoes wont hurt him, I might have egg chips and beans.
Wont be doing too much today as what ever I do Evie follows me and I think it wore her out yesterday so I think I will find some sit down jobs, we were thinking about visiting Copenhagen this winter for the Xmas markets so might do a bit of research into that.
Hugs to Jackie O today xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning, thanks for the thread nmlc X
Beautiful day here in Kent and we are due to have 22 degrees later. I've packed cropped trousers and a tshirt in my gym bag ready for going in to the charity after my session.
Last night we went to DDs school talent show. Some great voices and dance routines. DD played the piano whilst her friend sang a song by My Chemical Romance (no, me neither...). They did well to get up in front of the large audience. It's an all girls school and the back of the audience were pupils who joined in with the singing.
DH is off to the job centre this morning. Thank you all for your good wishes, he has an interview booked for next week yay! Early days (it's a 3 interview process) but at least it's a positive step forwards.
Hope you all have a great day xx

Morning all, we have a lovely day today - yesterday was a bit hit and miss with the showers and occasional downpours.
It feels surprisingly cold for July though.
Off to work soon, not necessarily with enthusiasm, a morning of meetings and then a 'learning opportunity ' instead of a lunch break. I don't take a break so that's ok for me. However I do like to get up and stretch, move around and I can't do that in a seminar.
Back door still unopenable. We'd be in difficulty if we had a fire.
Dropped at M*rrisons on way home last night, two fresh crusty loaves for 9p each, but the a cruel reduced ys bit was empty other than two big bags of mussels. Apart from the fact that I am not about to cook moules marinieres at 9 PM, I wouldn't risk ys mussels. They are the one and only thing that has ever given me food poisoning.
Gers your holiday sounds wonderful.
I must get off, hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning everyone,
Sunny and bright here but cold at the morning, hopefully it will get warmer.
Not much planned today, work until 2 and then home, hopefully to do some gardening. Things are growing v quickly with all this rain!
Spoke to Mum yesterday, she has been having some tummy troubles lately and has lost even more weight which she can ill afford to do, anyways her surgery are sending her for an ultra scan next Thursday so fingers crossed they can help. Have suggested that rather than try and face a big meal she breaks it down to five smaller meals, that way she won't be beaten before she starts.
Anyways, better get going, sending positive vibes to COXY OH as he starts his job quest, love to JACKIEO today.
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x0 -
Morning everyone,
Yesterday, as predicted, was a chilled out night which resulted in an early one with Game of Thrones, nothing exciting to report.
Today is a long day of work followed by a night myself. I don't think I'll have the energy for the gym afterwards so may just do some bits and bobs and keep on top of housework. I'll maybe think of a list of things to do.
Gers - Your evening sounds great and waking up to see that ship must've been some sight!
Ancient - Love a bargain! Good find.0 -
Morning All
Well I'm back! Had a lovely time but glad to be back in my own house and my own bed - sharing a bed with DD is like sleeping next to an overgrown starfish (and she grinds her teeth!).
Thankfully the weather is lovely and sunny this morning so the washing is out on the line, just waiting for a white wash to finish.
I'm having a smart meter fitted to the gas and electricity meters today, they will be here sometime between 8 and 12, hope it's soon as there's no food in the house! A chap is coming later to clean the oven too, I got a free oven clean each year when I bought it - don't think it will take long as I hardly ever use it, usually use the halogen oven.
RR - hope little Evie recovers quickly, it will be better for her in the long run.
Gers - Your holiday sounds so interesting and such a bonus having the sunshine, hope it lasts.
Need to chase up JL today, I ordered some lamps for the living room and there was a delivery note through the door when I got back saying that they had left the parcel under the car! Well maybe they did but there's nothing there and the neighbours don't have anything. What a stupid place to leave something when the car is on the front drive.
Hugs to all in need, have a lovely day. Take care. XX0 -
Morning ((((((((((hugs))))))))))) if you need one.
Good news yesterday. I had written to the head chap at the council re the two emails we had sent and not had a reply to. On Tuesday we got a call from said head chap. He was going to speak to the repairs chappie and he would get back to us.
We had a phone call yesterday, I answered the phone but gave it to OH as I would probably have been very rude.
We have to have a survey for the gas, we know its in the street, 4 of the bungalows have gas central heating, then the heating people will come out and discuss the heating.
The repairs chappie is coming out to see us regarding the wet room, so RESULT!!
I do not know why they did not change the heating when the bungalow was empty, they had plenty of time to do it.
I am not going to complain we just need to use up the coal we have in the autumn and then see what we are going to put in the fireplace.
We will have to do some redecoration and depending on where they put the radiators we will have to sort the walls behind the storage heaters which of course will come out. I will also have to shorten the two pairs of curtains in the sitting room and bedroom. I need to think about it.
So if we get those two things done the bungalow will be perfect.0 -
Good Morning everyone Thanks friends for your kind thoughts. My DD rang to say "OK Mum ? and don't forget to stay for dinner tonight" she is a good lass, and every year we have a 'remembering' dinner and we all remember the daft, funny things that her Dad used to get up to, and all the laughs we had together The boys who can remember him, will also chip in as well and its a nice way to celebrate his life and we know he is never forgotten.
It looks as though the sun is out for awhile today at least and I already have a small line of washing blowing away in the breeze.
general pottering around day today until the afternoon then I will go to DDs as my DGS Mikey texted me to say can I mend his school trousers That boy goes through them like no ones businessI seem to be forever sewing his trousers up.
Hope you all have a good day today what ever you are doing
