Daily overdraft charges

Hi,
Currently myself and my husband bank with Halifax. We have an overdraft that we are trying to pay off. However after neumerous calls I was told this can only be done when we give updated I.D (yet nothing has changed since we opened it 3 yes ago). I find it ludicrous that we can increase our o/d on line yet can't pay it off without said updated I'd. We are also charged £1 a day for being in it, on est we pay halifax £300 a year for this o/d we can't get out of. Even closing the account does not stop the charges.
A simple case of I.d I know 10 mins in the bank but the principle of it annoys me. Any advice on this and the charges (possible reclaim??)
Thanks in advance

I'd strongly recommend stuffing "principles", taking ID into a branch as requested and then repaying the debt as quickly as possible.0

I concur with PeacefulWaters. It's rather unfortunate that Halifax have requested more information after just a few years but they are entitled to do so.
As I understand it you're charged £1 per day regardless of the amount overdrawn so unless you are able to repay the full amount and have been delayed in doing so I wouldn't expect the bank to waive anything.
If it's particularly inconvenient for you to get to the branch then you might get somewhere by complaining about it and they MIGHT give you something as a goodwill gesture but they're under no obligation to do so and I think that it's unlikely that they will. Anecdotally the best way to complain is not to get irate but to be pleasant whilst doing so.0 -
Do you mean that you can no longer make payments into your bank account unless you go into a branch with proof of identity?0
