Car insurance renewal quote... really??
Comments

I just came on here to say exactly the same thing!
My car insurance is coming up for renewal at the beginning of August. Normally I've been paying around £300, give or take. Yes I had an accident a couple of years ago but that didn't even affect my renewal price last year (well nothing worth noting at least).
I received my renewal letter from Admiral yesterday and they want £700! Straight onto comparison sites I went and it's down to around £350. I know in past years I've phoned them and like pinkteapot says, they drop it instantly.
I think they just put up stupid prices in the hope that people are too lazy to go elsewhere or even open the letter?!0 -
Tesco Insurance did the same to me this year. They were the cheapest quote for previous 2 years. Come renewal this year they had hiked it up £100 and even new quotes off the compare sites, although less than the renewal, but not by much. Took out a new policy elsewhere and when I phoned Tesco to cancel the auto renew they didn't even try to match my quote or keep my business in any way.0

please help...
had a renewal quote come from hastings who my wife has been with for 4 years . it was £304 at start of july rewal date 30th July...
1 week later some one at her works reversed into her car in the car park doing £1100 damage to her car. our car was parked up and no one in it. The 3rd party came told my wife etc and exchanged details and 3rd party has said it was her fault.
now hastings sent a new quote for £417 ... when i rang them about it yesterday i was then given a revised quote of £497 instead ..?? never had any previous cliams etc / accidents
how does this work when its not our fault .. i couldn't get a proper answer from the person at hastings only have a look some were else...
please can someone help

<pet gripe> They are not the THIRD party.
The first party is you.
The second party is the person who drove into you.
A third party would be somebody else entirely. Somebody else who was injured, or whose car or house was damaged in the aftermath of the collision.told my wife etc and exchanged details and 3rd party has said it was her fault.
Is it all settled, closed, repaired and paid in full? If not, then it's still an open claim.now hastings sent a new quote for £417 ... when i rang them about it yesterday i was then given a revised quote of £497 instead ..??
Even if the claim was settled and closed, it's still a claim you've been involved in.never had any previous cliams etc / accidents
You have now.how does this work when its not our fault
You're a higher risk. You park in a car park where cars get driven into, which makes your car at increased risk of being hit. Maybe next time, you won't get the details of the person who hit you, so you'll claim from your insurance - they are at higher risk of having to pay out, so they charge you more.0 -
(Nearly!) all wrong. You look to have had a pet gripe in ignorance<pet gripe> They are not the THIRD party.
The first party is you.
The second party is the person who drove into you.
A third party would be somebody else entirely. Somebody else who was injured, or whose car or house was damaged in the aftermath of the collision.....
The third party is the other driver/owner
(Were you correct then insurers would call insurance intended to only cover you against damaging others "second party only"!)
(FYI the second party is your own insurer)0 -
