Replacing a Back Boiler

Anyone got any experience of this?
We're interested in a house that has one. I've no idea as yet as to what kind of condition it's in. But anyway, seeing as we'll be looking at re-decorating it seems appropriate to get some advice about changing it.
As with probably most, it's behind the living room fireplace in a cupboard in the kitchen. Added to this there's a large water tank in the second bedroom. Ideally I'd like to rip them out, replace the fire with a modern hole in the wall job (prob around £1k), re-plaster and put a new combi or condenser boiler in the loft.
We replaced our boiler in our current house around 8 years ago but we got a good deal as the wife was working for a central heating firm at the time.
So, any ideas on cost? Obviously new boiler, making good and possibly re-routing a fair amount of pipework.
A second and related point - does anyone know what the government grant schemes are now for loft and cavity wall insulation. Again, we got it done a few years ago and I think we paid very little. We moved abroad in the meantime and I think the scheme has been greatly reduced so the cost of doing both jobs is obviously a lot higher. Anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks,

I had exactly this done a couple of years ago by a local plumber who came recommended in Hertfordshire. Total cost including re-routing gas pipe was £3200. Could probably have got it cheaper, but I trusted this guy to do the job properly.0

Replacing a back boiler is a big job, the new boiler often has to go in a different place (access to an outside wall) and so it depends on how much re-routing there is of gas and water pipes.
I would leave the back boiler until it fails, they last for decades.
Loft and cavity wall schemes are run by energy companies nowadays. If you haven't had it done there might be some of them doing it for free.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0
