    That looks pretty neat paddyrg.

    Just one question.

Is it unlocked, or tied to one network?

Unlocked, should work with any 4G SIM. Certainly works a treat with Three.

I may be a little late, I just ordered this:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00UV5P9Z0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm hoping it will work as well as the tp-link.

You just paid double the possible rate. Too late for what?

NEW Alcatel EE Osprey 2 4G Mobile Broadband Wi-Fi Router and Powerbank £29.99

    Unlock code £0.99

    Video guide

It's not advanced algebra. How come so many feel the need to spend so much more to buy an 'unlocked' option?

I'm sure it will, insofar as it has a similar, not identical function. It'll create a localised hotspot, has much smaller range, doesn't have ethernet ports, doesn't support multiple SSID's, doesn't support 5GHz band, doesn't support some of the fancier routing, timing, security features BUT it will provide a local wifi hotspot from a 4G SIM.

    Not fully correct.

If you aren't planning on using it from your pocket or on the go,

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/tp-link-archer-mr200-4g-lte-wi-fi-router-with-sim-card-slot-a54xu (other suppliers are available)

These are actually rather good. 2.4 GHz plus 5GHz bands, basic partitioning and throttling of guest networks, etc. I ran an office of 15 people off the back of one 4G connection (not ideal, obviously, but the only option), with the ethernet printer shared using it, etc. May not suit your use case, but at least you know it exists ;-)

    Reviews are mixed: https://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-LINK-Archer-MR200-Unlocked-Configuration/dp/B0161ACBE0#customerReviews

Cheers Nifty on the 5GHz catch.

Reviews are mixed, but mostly from people wanting to DDNS or other extended, non-typical workflows. For a small office or domestic use its great. Over time I've bought several similar models (previously the ones that needed an external dongle for 3G/4G, whereas this is integrated).

We use them to set up an ad-hoc internet Wi-Fi network in strange places for a couple of months, last one was a military stadium in Cairo, for instance, but could also be any remote site where ADSL/cable takes weeks to install and we have days to get working. I'm familiar with them all (we typically use a dozen or so at a time), and this is the best of the consumer-level units. Price-wise it's very cheap compared with commercial-grade versions, and has an interface with simple or advanced configuration options. I wouldn't be put off by reviews from people hoping it would be something it isn't, it's a good little unit for most people and small offices.

    Hi Guys

I recently enquired at Vodafone, EE and Three about their Myfi service. The best deal was with Vodafone: 30-day contract, £45 upfront for the device and £20 p.m. for 20G. Is this good?

If you've found a better deal then I'd appreciate you letting me know. Thanks!

If you are the serious business type, you may prefer the Huawei E5878s-32 for £32.29 plus £0.99p for unlock code.

It's a bit better looking, for the business user:
