Kwikfit Tyre Fitting Package

I had a tyre fitted today and was quoted £66 over the phone so I agreed to get the works done and went to collect my car later that day. On payment I was handed a bill with the original £66 for the tyre and then £14.98 for tyre fitting package. I questioned it and the guy said it was for changing the valve etc. I thought hang on a minute this tyre has now gone from £66 to £81. I had to go back to work so I paid it and on speaking with a few people they told me to contest it which I did and was given a refund. They refunded me because I told them it was a hidden charge and it came under charging a fair and reasonable price because I had found other garages only charging £43 for the same quality tyre. Even on their own website you can buy a tyre and get it fitted for £47.99 so I was horrified that they were adding this mystery charge after a price had been agreed. Please check your bill before signing because they charged my for this for two tyres two months ago and I didn't think about it but when I saw it again I didn't want to be taken for a mug twice in a row! Might try reporting them to trading standards.

Yep QF quote the tyre only price then sting you after its fitted. Find a small local tyre shop. They are generally cheaper.

I have 2 local ones and they both beat the online prices and beat QF hands down. They also only quote the all in fitted price.

They also balance trailer tyres, some places will tell you they dont need balancing.

"Hello, I'm after a <size> tyre, <brand> preferably. £66? OK, thanks. Is that the final price, or are there extras?"

My company car was on a lease [with maintenance] that used Kwikfit.

Some were very good. I remember Chesterfield giving great service.
Some weren't. One often seemed to forget to balance rear wheels.

I never got any of the hard sell - probably because they knew the lease company would have to approve any charge.
