Extended Warranty Rip Off

Beware of buying extended warranties on items. Have just been caught out with SCS extended warranty on a leather sofa. Having pets we discussed this when buying the sofa and were directed to their extended warranty which would cover us for pet damage. Having been passed from pillar to post we discover it only covers the actual leather upholstery, not the backing fabric, the zips, the stitching so any damage to these is not covered at all and obviously means that we cannot claim in future as the ttem is now damaged - our dog chewed the zips holding the cushions to the sofa! hundrdes of pounds wasted for a useless piece of paper. Buyer beware.

Yep, I think everyone knows that they aren't worth the paper they are written on. I haven't bought one in 24 years.

Why should an insurance pay for your failure to control your dog?

    Accidental damage cover
By taking out our Sofa Guard cover on your new leather sofa, you will be insured against any accidental rips, tears, burns, scratches, punctures or scuffs that may occur, so you can enjoy your sofa without worry.

    but

    Exclusions and limitations
(This can be found under Section 5 on your Certificate of Insurance).
Any claim for or resulting from the following will not be valid:
    ...............

    12. Damage caused by pets (except accidental staining caused by pet fluids).
    13. Damage caused by any animal other than your pet(s)
    ...................

so it was never covered for any animal damage.

I thought a warranty covered an item for failure due to poor quality or breakdown not caused by misuse and insurance covered damage caused otherwise.

Do you have contents insurance and have you checked whether it would cover the damage?
