ESA Mandatory reconsideration questions

1. Recently failed my ESA medical. I asked the charity I deal with, if they could help me with this. So they wrote some stuff, and sent that in. I also wrote a letter myself, and mailed it in. The due date was 6th July. The charities stuff would have got their about a week before the date, and mines arrived there on the 5th, as I sent it by recorded delivery with confirmation.

Neither myself, or the charity, have received anything from the DWP about asking for the Mandatory reconsideration. Are they not at least suppose to write and say they have received our request? Or do they not write to you????

2. Also, it will have been asked but, does anybody have a "rough" idea, how long the Mandatory reconsideration takes? It says on the benefitsandwork website: "There is some evidence that the DWP have set themselves a target of 10 days to carry out mandatory reconsiderations"

Is that really realistic? Or is 30 days even realistic?

Thanks!

In my experience, in England, there is no acknowledgement of receipt of an MR and they tend to give you a decision relatively quickly. I haven't seen many (if any) that have taken 30 days

I am sure there were good reasons for it but sending information separately is a bit iffy. You are relying on them putting the two things together. Where possible, I suggest to clients that we do the form together and then they send it off with a covering letter/extra evidence when they can

But, as I say, I can see why, sometimes, this isn't the best course of action

    Thanks for your reply.

Regarding myself writing an additional letter, I didn't see the harm in it? Or is it like a taboo????

I phoned the hotline just before 6pm, and "luckily" got put through to somebody, almost instantly. I said I was just concerned as I never received any confirmation. She said "well, some people receive confirmation, while others don't" She also said that they had received a couple of items for me.

Before I could even ask her the timescale she said "You will hear back with a decision with in, 14 working days"

However, if you don't hear back by the 28th, give us a call on the 29th. Hmm, 28th is longer than 14 working days (from the 6th) but, at least I know it will be within this month, the outcome.

I didn't say it was taboo. Not sure where you got that from. I was suggesting that it's best, if you can , to send everything in together. Saves the possibility of things going astray/not being linked. Sounds like, though, from your phone conversation that they have been connected

sny correspondance sent ( recorded or otherwise) goes to a mailing office.
i can then take a further 2 weeks to get to the department that is actually dealing with the information.

you have to be patient because you are in a queue with every other claimant
