O/S Daily Thread for Wednesday 13th July

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning all

Roll on next week, I'm not normally one to wish my life away, but I want to get on with painting my bathrooms, sounds posh having two, but one is the smallest ensuite hubby made from 2 cupboards.

I'm doing a couple of days a week respite for DD2 each week over the holidays and DD1 is doing 2 days a week too.

The French doors are mended, so we are now secure again and hubby can stop fretting, £100 for the new part, we could have ordered it online for £87.99 plus VAT & postage.

    Time for another cuppa.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Morning everyone. Thanks for the thread HH.

The sun is shining again here. The winds are, so far, the only problem.

Yesterday we visited the huge chambered tomb of Maes Howe which is across Loch Harray from the Ring of Brodgar and the Ness of Brodgar. Then we went to the quaint village of Stromness before lunch. In the afternoon I did some 'tourist' type shopping.

Today we have a packed itinerary again including Earl's Palace, Stones of Steness, Brough of Birsay and ending up at St Magnus Cathedral in the centre of town. Then we intend to go to a pub with live music tonight.

I'm going to skip breakfast too as I felt better for it yesterday. I've ordered from Ama*on an ioniser with a HEPA filter to see if that will help my nasal problem.

Anyway, time to get under the shower. I hope everyone has a lovely Wednesday.

    Morning everyone

HH - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, clear blue sky, but feels much cooler than the last few days, drying up underfoot after the rain last night, hoping for a dry day, as have a basket of washing ready to peg on the line.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, ice cream for dessert. Tonight I'm not sure but have LO cauli/broc cheese, roast potatoes, so I'm thinking of getting some gammon steaks to grill and I'll do some potato wedges (not enough LO roast pots for us all) I'll do us each a fried egg and add some peas, hopefully that'll use up all the LO bits from the fridge.

I was reasonably productive yesterday - did get some housework done and some ironing - the remaining ironing is on the "to do" list today, I will get that all done and up to date. Got a couple of jobs done on the pc.

Will just potter along again and get stuff done at my own pace. I may do some baking later.

    Keep safe and well x

Morning all, it is bright and clear here but quite chilly and the weatherman tells me that it will rain later. But pretty good while it lasts.

Off to work soon and will be working late. I'm feeling a bit tired as it took a long time to fall asleep last night, but I should recover soon.

This week I am just wishing the days away and that's so negative, must do better!

Last night's dinner was a chicken casserole cooked by OH but I'll cook for myself tonight as they will have eaten long before I come in.

Hope everyone has a good day.

  • Morning all and thanks for the start HESTER. Glad you are now secure! GERS I continue to be envious of your trip. I saw St Magnus Cathedral a while back on tv, it looks beautiful.

We got middle DGD safely to her tap exam yesterday after a marathon drive around the Calder valley. Mr TA did a sterling job of navigating! As planned DD dropped us off in Hebden Bridge on the way back. The little town looks amazing after the devastation caused by the winter floods and was, as usual, busy with visitors. Just one or two businesses yet to open again. We enjoyed a tasty late lunch of the most enormous Steak in Ale pie, dripping with gravy, encased in the crispiest, buttery pastry I've ever eaten. (I dread to think how many calories!)

Food shopping to do today at some point. Mostly fridge stuff as the freezers are well stocked so will probably just go to Aldi this week.

The two youngest DGDs are here for tea, sleepover and school run in the morning. (Eldest is staying at her dads, but will be with us tomorrow night) They are coming straight from school but youngest will be to take to Rainbows for 5.30 after we have had a fairly early tea. Probably some sort of pasta dish which has yet to be christened.

Have a nice day all and (((HUGS))) for those wanting/needing them. Take care xx

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It started out lovely and sunny but now the sky is full of black clouds so it looks like a downpour is on it's way. Hubby has left for work complaining of a bad tum. I've ordered him some live yoghurt to see if it will help. The girls are either sleeping or pottering round getting ready for school.

Two of my sisters are coming to see me this morning. I have mixed feelings, on the one hand I want to ask them why they couldn't be bothered to go to my daughter's hen night but on the other I just want to enjoy their company and catch up with any news.

Anyway, I have had a quick tidy up and just need my DD15 to empty the dish washer before she goes to school. The rest of the house doesn't look too bad as we had a bit of a blitz on the weekend.

I am going to make a storecupboard stew for tea as we have so many tins again taking up all the room. Everyone likes it so it's a popular choice especially when I serve it with crusty bread and butter. DD16 made a lovely coffee and walnut cake yesterday and I made some welsh cakes so puddings are taken care of.

Gers, it sounds like you are having a wonderful time on holiday.
TA that pie sounded amazing I am drooling!
Hester, you are so busy, it would make my head whirl to do half of what you do. I hope you can get your house finished so you can downsize and maybe relax a little xx

Well that's it from me, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Good Morning everyone ,looking a bit doubtful outside at the moment, grey skies and lots of cloud.
This afternoon I have the U3A monthly meeting and our speaker is a lady pilot ,so it should be interesting We came joint third at quiz last night but had a great evening and three new ladies turned up to join in Our supper meal was a delicious jacket potato with a chopped chicken and mayo filling ,and boy was it filling A good night out for £2.00 plus I bought a coffee for £1.70 (I'm a real cheap date :):):))

I managed to book a room for the end of the month in Faversham as its my sis-in-laws surprise 70th birthday party, she thinks she is only going out for a quiet drink with her DD:) Where I am staying is only around the corner from the venue and she doesn't know that everyone is turning up from all over the place :) Very pleasant Irish lady in a B&B that I found by accident on the net and its got brilliant ratings on tripadvisor,so thats a weekend to look forward to.

This weekend will be a bit sad as is this week as tomorrow is the 13th anniversary of losing my OH, and on Saturday I am off to London to Hither Green where my late brother Davey's ashes are being interred in with my late Mum.But I am thinking positively. He will be reunited with our Mum as was his wishes bless him.My nephew is coming down from Lancashire to hold the service (he's a vicar) so it will be quite a personal one.

Right time to get a wriggle on as the coffee pot is calling
Hope you all have a good day whatever you are doing

    Cheers chums

    Morning everyone,

Bright here but like others have said it feels cooler, my feet were cold in bed last night!

Had a productive afternoon in BuryStEd yesterday, DOH picked up three tops in the sales inc a WS sweatshirt for less than half price, even the woman on the till remarked what a bargain it was. It rained on and off so we took shelter in a cafe near the Abeey, had the most delicious sticky toffee date and pecan cake, they even warmed it through, delicious but like TA and her pie dread to think how many calories :rotfl:
Not much planned for today, need to stop off on way home to fill car up and get some few bits of fresh. Then over to see Bill later for horsey cuddles and maybe a little walk down the lane depending on weather.

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

    Morning all,

    Thanks for the thread Hester.

It's all go here as DS2 is off on a school trip - survival skills - back on Friday. DH is taking him to school as he wont be able to carry all his kit on the school coach - lucky he is off work really!
Tonight we have DD's school concert and she will get fed at school, so dinner is part bake crusty baguettes with meatballs - nice and quick and rather naughty!

This morning I am meeting a builder at the church to discuss car park renovations then off to knitting group where I will deliver the 12 drummers drumming I finished yesterday. We are then going for a spot of lunch before I return to the church office this afternoon. I also have to move about 150.chairs in the church ready for a group booking this evening - seriously living the dream down here in Kent!

DH had a telephone vetting yesterday by a company. They want to get him in for an interview. He also has a sniff at three other possible jobs so please keep your fingers crossed for him. He is getting quite despondent being at home :(

JackieO - sending hugs for the anniversary of your OH and hope the arrangements for this weekend go smoothly xx

    Have a great day all

    Morning all,

Nice bright day here atm, meant to rain again later though will have a search round for some washing.

Evie continues to do well although she is quite frustrated as to why she cant go our for a run, she has a check at the vets tomorrow so will ask them, I think she can go out for a lead walk as from Friday, but no off lead for a good while yet.

The lady neighbour at the bottom of the garden called the ambulance again last night, this is the third time in two weeks, they took her off but she was home again later on, it is only going to be a matter of time before she does some real damage to herself or someone else she needs some professional help but they say there is nothing they can do for her !! its such a shame.

Not sure about dinner yet, will go and have a look in the freezer after this I fancy something with veg and spuds as we have had rice / pasta the last two days.

    Have good days all xx
