Go - no question.
If nothing else as nothing pinches you quite that impersonally to deliver absolute peace of mind.
Unless of course it doesn't, but really, where else do you get to wear your best bra to an appreciative connoisseur thereof having carefully washed in the previous 12 hours?
Given the choice between not going & wondering or going & not wondering, it's a no brainer for me. "The classic poses" I call them, and really, one two three four done. The machines & nurses are wonderful, height & size really not an issue - they can & do cope as serenely with lemons as with melons.0 -
Well I have just rang to cancel it
They will invite again in 3 years time.
The fear of being treated if no treatment is needed is what's stopping me.
It's ok to say well you can decide on treatment if it comes down to it, but who's going to refuse treatment if told they will die in six months?
My mum was 24hrs away from having her lung removed. My sister had flown in from Autralia, the grandkids told nanny was very poorly. I had to sit and tell my invalid step dad, his wife had terminal cancer and that they were removing her lung and giving her chemo to make her more comfortable
She had TB scars. Even the MRI she had had come back negative and still the doctors were insistent she had lung cancer
When we went to the Royal to see the specialist there all he was interested in was making sure she knew what the operation involved. She had to scream at him to get the consultant in to her to review everything again. He finally listened, took her for a jog up three flights of stairs and pronounced her fit as a smoker of that age could be!!!
Five years later she's still going strong and has only in the past month or so given up a six day working week
So ok, I might have a cancer lurking in there that's not visible to the naked eye. It might be found when it's too late. Who knows. I think I'd rather that scenario then going through something I might never have needed because of a miss diagnoses
I might feel differently in 3 years, who knows

Thank you. I dare say I will next time, just the last time I was emotionally fragile after dealing with Mr Bugs' illness and expiry and couldn't deal with it.
Suki , if that's what you want, then fine, it's every woman's choice and in three years time, you may feel quite different.
Good, helpful thread:)0 -
Suki and Bugslet, I completely get it too. Fear is what drives us, sometimes towards things and sometimes away. For some writing here it's the fear of not finding something if it's lurking, for others it's a fear of other's bad experiences. I wish you both the best.
Just as I had finished all my treatment I received a routine smear test reminder; I shouted aloud, "F*** O** and leave me alone!" as I threw the letter in a drawer. I've always had these previously but I couldn't cope with the possibility of more bad news. I haven't yet had a reconstruction either because I don't want to be interfered with, I don't want to be in pain again or feel ill or be incapacitated again. Maybe I will change in time but only time will tell.

Just to mention there is a 'cancer support' thread here:

Thanks Pollycat
I'm not sure I would be much help to them, even after 7 yrs I'm too close to it. A couple of sadly missed yet never forgotten members on here, Taxi and Kissjenn, touched me so acutely I had survivors guilt and when in RL I hear of someone losing the battle I'm reminded I'm on borrowed time. I wonder sometimes if I will ever go 24 hrs without ruminating.

I just happened to notice it when I was on the Marriages board, I've never read any of the posts.

It's your decision, it seems like you've thought about it and made a decision that you are comfortable with.0 -

I'm OK-ish discussing it (after 7 years for me too), but I know I'll be looking for lumps for the rest of my life & I worry too that one day it will get me. But in between operations I like to try to forget it for my own sanity. Although like you TCC, I feel guilty for those that wont make it, & it breaks my heart.0 -

Does that mean they've already made an appointment for you, without your consent, and the onus is on the patient to ring up and cancel it??I'm back..

It's part of the national screening program. All women are sent an invite between the age of 50 and 54, then every 3 years after till they are 70. If you don't want the appointment of its not at a convenient time you ring them0 -

Yes you get an actual appointment which you need to confirm, change or cancel.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -
