Zipcar insurance excess

I've joined Zipcar and they tell me that the excess if I cause any damage will be £1000. I can pay £19.95 per month to reduce this excess to zero.

I only plan on using their service for a couple of hours later this week. I doubt I'll use it again any time soon. I'm aware of car hire excess insurance (as promoted on MSE) which costs less than £2 per day.

Does anyone know if such car hire excess insurance covers Zipcar/Zipvan, or would I need to take out "car club" excess insurance instead, which seems to be a lot more expensive?

Read the policy Ts & Cs. If it doesn't exclude cars from outfits like Zip, then it covers them.
If you're unsure, ask the insurer.

Read the policy before buying car hire excess cover.

The "catch" usually is that its cover only comes into force if you have to pay your excess in full.
