So who's had thier central heating on already?

Sorry if this is in the wrong area, but just wondering if anyone has given in and put the central heating on yet?

I am determined not to until end of Oct. Our house is quite warm anyway, dispite not much insullation (will do that next year) will be bringing out the winter duvet soon and cooking more warming meals.

So when will you put the heating on?

  • Are you kidding? I can't cool my house down enough! Windows always open, sleeping under a sheet... I'm even thinking about grabbing a couple of fans...

Seriously though, I don't like hot houses. I lived without any form of heating or hot water (with a hole in the roof too!) for 3 years, sometimes waking up with frost on the inside of the windows, but once I got used to it I was fine.

I'm now quite comfortable wearing a thick jumper and a blanket in a cold house, or running on the treadmill... I don't know if I'll ever turn the heating on again!

Whenever it's cold enough to merit it; that's when the bathroom and bedroom windows get closed as well. I felt a nip in the air when I got up this morning, but we're a long way off the central heating moment in our house. I'm armed with hormones and I get to control the thermostat ;)

But I am feeling a need to have more warming meals - stews, chunky soups, spuds, root veg. This weekend I'll be turfing all the sad bits out of the freezers and plotting how to fill them again with yummy food.

    Hi redballon,

This is a good thread for the Fuel and other heating board so I'll move it over there.

I have had the heating on for half an hour a few weeks ago just to check everything was working okay.

I hang on till October before I use my central heating on.

  • I can't vote - no CH since March 2006 and no idea when it will be back on.

Interestingly, you adjust to the lack of CH and actually feel the cold LESS ... meaning, that you get to the point where you don't miss it (and work from home, so you'd think I'd really, really notice it).

Might not bother and just put CH in when we come to sell :)

As electricity and gas prices seem to mysteriously rise just in time for winter I'll be putting off the day for as long as possible. We have some lovely thick blankets to wrap ourselves in on the sofa so they will come out soon. I might relent and actually get some slippers this year. Winter duvets will be going on the beds pretty soon too.
  • No way no how!!!! i bought everyone a blankie, and we all cuddle up on the couch with them, im the wrong side of thirty and keep having flushes... no power surges i once read!!!!! so there is no way im having the heating on at all!!! humbug

  • Hi, I've not had the CH on yet but I have had the gas fire in the sitting room on several times (just for an hour or two in the evenings).

If I last till October before putting on the heating i'll be quite happy !
