I remember when I was a child my dad put a hot baking tray on the carpet. Tried to claim off the insurance and they said "no flame no claim". Not sure what level of insurance it was.

    Hello,

I'm sure I read in a thread somewhere on MSOS that you could try and fix melted carpet fibres caused by dropping a hot iron on the carpet, by scraping them off with the some wire wool.

Well I tried it with some wire wool, and it has stained the carpet with the metallic colour of the wire wool :o.

Any ideas how I can get rid of this new metallic stain? (I still have the old carpet burn mark too!)

    Thanks for any advice.

You could try gently going over the area with a razor (I used my husband's!), this worked for me when I did the same thing. Be careful not to be too savage with it though. Then scuff the carpet in between to see when you can't notice it any longer. It takes a while but when I did it you couldn't notice it at all afterwards.

I was going to say nearly the same thing as the OP... I've got a really really sharp kitchen knife (chef's knife) and used it to shave off the rubbish bit. :o Mine wasn't a burn but several blobs of gloss paint. Don't ask.

First of all, I have no idea why she did it.. The table was right next to her, but supposed;y only did it for a split second, but whatever.

We currently rent and the muppet left a hot grille on the carpet, so yes, a nice L shaped (light) burn mark on the carpet.

It's not too noticeable, but I'd like to somehow lift it.. I know cleaners etc won't work obviously, but is there some sort of wire brush I could use to soften this? :(
  • I'd probably give the carpet a good going over with a stiff brush, then hoover up any of the burnt bits that have been dislodged.

Then down on my knees with a pair of teeny nail scissors and very gently, and lightly, 'trim' the remaining burnt bits off.

Take care though to only trim very, very, very lightly - just the 'tips' of the burn mark.

Best thing to do is to use a razor or a blunt pair of scissors to very carefully trim away the burnt top part of the carpet pile, if it's a light burn, anyway.

I have stupidly managed to burn my carpet with the iron!!
I know, I know why not use the ironing board...just didn't have enough time but wish I had now.
Its a newish carpet in a pale cream colour, and although the burn hasn't changed the colour of the carpet too much it has gone hard and is noticeable. So does anybody have any ideas on how to get rid of the marks so that I don't have to splash out on a new carpet??????_pale_

My SIL claimed for a new carpet on her home insurance when she dropped the iron on it.
