No not that sort - behave!!!
I have just discovered a lovely iron shaped mark on my 6 month old beige carpet. Nice of someone to admit to it - not.
At the moment it just looks like a shadow on the carpet, but feels rough to the touch. I think the carpet is 80% wool, but not entirely sure.
Other than turning a blind eye or covering it with a rug, is there anything I can do to get rid of it?
Thanks

I was going to say that Savlon is great on knees
We had an iron-shaped carpet burn in a house we rented; I never found anything to help. I did rub it with an ice cube to see if the pile would fluff up again but no luck.0 -
"Use fine steel wool to scrape away the burned fibre, or use nail scissors to clip it away. Then sponge the area with a little white vinegar." From Natural Stain Remover by Angela Martin - I've used some of her ideas but not this one.0

I've never had a full mark, but I did drop a hot iron onto the carpet and it very lightly scorched it. I used a de-fuzzer that I have for getting the bobbly bits off woolies, then combed it and it seemed to be ok. My carpet is a few years old though, and I don't think it's 100% wool.
I don't notice it now, and OH has never noticed it - and I've never told him either!!"It is always the best policy to speak the truth-unless, of course, you are an exceptionally good liar." - Jerome K Jerome0 -
I've managed to burn the carpet with the iron - can anyone suggest any ways that I can help it look better??0

Carefully trim the scorched tips off the pile with nail scissors?0

If you do cut a piece out from an area that's hidden (e.g. under the sofa), I'm sure I read once that you're better to cut an irregular shape than a geometrical one. So, cut out the burnt bit out first and lay that over the the hidden bit to use as a template. Apparently an irregular shape is less easy to spot than a regular shape. Of course, it may well be a different shade from the rest of the carpet as it won't have faded.some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it0

Do you have house insurance with accidental cover ? If so you can get a new carpet using this. X0

Paige - what a fantastic idea - I never thought of that.... you know you pay all this money out in insurance, and how often do you actually claim!?
Thanks for all the advice0 -
A similar thing happened to me last year. I spilt 4 bottles of red wine on my dinning room carpet ( I was putting a bottle on its side in the wine rack and it slipped onto the shelf below) and it did not even cross my mind to use insurance for about a week. I was stressing out because I could not afford a new carpet when the insurance suddenly occurred to me. I got a new carpet for lounge as well. The 2 rooms are divided by french doors and as I had the carpet in without a join they payed to replace all of it. Glad this helped. X0
